Partner doesn’t like any boy names!

So we don’t know what we’re having, but I cannot agree on a boy’s name with my partner!
we have a daughter already and her name is out of the top 100 - we love that it’s more unusual!
we would like a boy’s name with a similar, maybe bohemian/more unusual type of feel, however my partner is very set on a top 10 name currently.
don’t get me wrong, if I loved a popular name, I’d still have it, however I really don’t feel anything towards his chosen name.
he absolutely hates anything vintage sounding (“they’ll get bullied”) despite those being so popular for many years now which is so frustrating.

I'm Scottish and my DSs have Scottish names, so I'm probably biased towards them! Not sure if they count as bohemian though.

My partner loves Oscar (I like the name, just don’t love it for me!)
daughter is Indie 😊

I think Oscar and Indie go really well together. It is a more popular name than Indie but I think it’s nice and I wouldn’t have said overly popular.

What is it that he likes about Oscar - is it the sound, the literary connotations, the possibility of shortening it to Ozzy or something a bit funky?

Oscar and Jasper are not wildly different so at least you are both looking at the same/similar names. Why not agree to a short list of the two names for now and choose when the baby is here?

My ex was vehemently against Sebastian. As he was a twat to me before and throughout the pregnancy and we broke up soon after the baby was born, I would have gone with it anyway. I appreciate it's completely different when you're still with the father and he isn't an arsehole though.

Seth, Louie, and Xander would have me folding my arms and saying no too, I have to admit. Especially Louie spelled like that.

I think Oscar has a lot going for it - easy to spell, a well-recognised old name, very international.

The bullying thing is neither here nor there when it comes to names - your H is naive if he thinks a name will bully proof a child, or essentially that it's something about the victim that causes bullying. Bullying happens because bullies have problems and take their feelings out on others instead of dealing with them.

This. Kids don't get bullied for their names - even unusual ones or foreign ones in my experience. The only name I ever heard teased (in primary school) was William with Willy . But as above, it's normal not due to someone's name that bullies bully.

There's been some nice suggestions here. I like the name Oscar but I wouldn't put it with Indie as it sounds a bit like you are working through the phonetic alphabet.

That's a good point - you can't have India and Oscar's together!
