Boys name help

What are peoples thoughts on alliteration? We are having a boy, thought we were set on a name but there isn’t anything we both LOVE. Not sure if it’s just doubts in the final few weeks. Our surname is Fisher - any boys names you think particularly go well. Not overly bothered about it being too popular but would prefer outside the top 20.

Names we like
Caspar - my favourite
Maximilian
Sebastian - love Seb not sure on the full name
Tobias - Toby - can’t use our only nephews name
Frederick - Fred
Jude - won’t use as the last three boy babies I know have been called this
Alfred - Alf - but really don’t like Alfie
Gabriel - too biblical?
Finley - probably one of my faves but is it too much with out surname - Finn - too fish related or am I being ridiculous?

Thanks for any help!

I like Sebastian the best. Second choice is Gabriel.

i prefer the ‘Casper’ spelling but either way there’s a lot of ‘er’ with Fisher.

Lionbags · 07/02/2024 12:35

I do think Finley Fisher is too much. Alf Fisher doesn’t really work either, the ‘f’s’ blend in.
I like Gabriel, think it goes well with your surname too. Wouldn’t say it’s too biblical as it had become quite mainstream now.
I love Caspar and it sounds fine with surname, if it’s your favourite you should go for that!

Onelife2024 · 07/02/2024 12:40

My personal favourites from your list are Sebastian and Maximilian, both sound great with fisher too.

I quite like Gabriel - Gabe is a cool short version.

I personally don’t really like Fred or Finley with Fisher.

I don’t mind Caspar, it’s just not my usual taste.

I’m not keen on Alfred, sorry, especially you’re not keen on Alfie.

Other ideas -

Zachary
Samuel
Elijah
Jacob
Euan
Aaron

Oh yeah I think Finn Fisher is a bad move but I do love Finn but not with your last name

Caspar - my favourite - too rhymes with your last name
Maximilian - meh
Sebastian - love Seb not sure on the full name - favourite
Tobias - Toby - can’t use our only nephews name - then scrap it
Frederick - Fred - love the name not the FF initials
Jude - won’t use as the last three boy babies I know have been called this - then scrap it
Alfred - Alf - but really don’t like Alfie - love it
Gabriel - too biblical? - love it - didn’t even know there was a biblical link
Finley - probably one of my faves but is it too much with out surname - Finn - too fish related or am I being ridiculous?

KirstenBlest · 07/02/2024 12:41

Caspar - fine
Maximilian - ok. Max Fisher sounds a bit odd
Sebastian - not keen
Tobias - Toby - you can't use it
Frederick - Fred - not keen, not great with the surname
Jude - not keen
Alfred - Alf - doesn't really goo with the surname. Alfie is likely
Gabriel - too long
Finley - too much with your surname

SpicyMargaritaPlease · 07/02/2024 12:44

I quite like alliterative names, one of my kids has one, not on purpose, just because we loved that first name. And I love the name Finley, but it will likely be shortened to Finn, and Finn Fisher sounds a bit jokey.

BlobOut · 07/02/2024 12:46

Sebastian Fisher sounds nice. Shortened to Seb also sounds ok. Max Fisher sounds a bit dull. The rest I really don't like. Finley Fisher is terrible 😁

BlobOut · 07/02/2024 12:48

Caspar reminds me of the ghost 👻

TM1979 · 07/02/2024 12:49

Seb or Gabe

Mumofgirls2017 · 07/02/2024 15:34

Love Caspar and Frederick, generally love alliteration but Finley fisher is too much for me sorry 🙈

Riverlee · 07/02/2024 15:40

Caspar - my favourite - quite like
Maximilian - not so keen
Sebastian - love Seb not sure on the full name - increased popularity?
Tobias - Toby - can’t use our only nephews name  - ok
Frederick - Fred  - quite like
Jude - won’t use as the last three boy babies I know have been called this
Alfred - Alf - but really don’t like Alfie - not keen
Gabriel - too biblical?  - really like, Noah was considered a really Bivlical name (and rarely used, even inside Christian families) but is popular now
Finley - probably one of my faves but is it too much with our surname - Finn - too fish related or am I being ridiculous? - Finley Fisher is too much (sorry) as fish have fins…

Other names:
Zachery
Joel
Jacob
Barnaby
Julian
Callum
Connor
Leo
Tate
Marcus
William

YourLocal · 07/02/2024 20:26

I think capsar, fred, william or leo would suit best x

theduchessofspork · 07/02/2024 21:31

Fin Fisher is really not a good idea 🐡🐠

Caspar Fisher is OK, but the rhymey ending isn’t the best

I would go for Gabriel - it’s popular-ish so you don’t need to worry about it being too biblical and Gabe Fisher sounds nice.

Second choice Sebastian - Seb also sounds good. Don’t just call him Seb though, it’s too nicknamey.

Max Fisher does slightly make me think of a bloke with a giant carp, Freddie Fisher sounds like a comedy character, Alfred is way overdone and Jude is going that way.

Other ideas..

Rory
Zachary (Zach)
Issac (Zac)
Alexander (Alex, Alec)
Marcus
Nathaniel or Nathan (Nate)
Owen

Sleepnplay · 07/02/2024 22:44

Gabriel is lovely, I would choose that. Gabe Fisher is v cool and I don't think you need to worry about it being too religious. I also like Sebastian.

Other suggestions
Nathaniel
Rowan
Jesse
Isaac
Tristan
Jacob
Ethan

I think there are some clear winners in Gabriel and Sebastian. I love Caspar and I don’t think it rhymes with our surname but also agree it doesn’t ‘look’ great with similar endings and both being two syllables.

Whereas Sebastian and Gabriel both having three flow better.

Gabriel and Sebastian are fantastic names that go very well with your surname.

Amdone123 · 08/02/2024 13:06

I love Gabriel and Sebastian, too.
We have similar taste...
Tristan as a pp suggested is lovely, as is William.
Dominic ?

Bloom15 · 08/02/2024 13:40

I have a Jude - didn't realise it was becoming more popular!

Out of your names I really like Gabriel. That was on my list for DS.

I would suggest:
Raphael
Zachary/Zach
Logan
Nathaniel/Nate
Dylan
Harrison

Good luck choosing a name!
