What are your thoughts of the name Serafina/Seraphina?
I prefer the version with an f, but then I'm more drawn to Spanish/Italian spellings of names.
It means 'ardent fiery ones' and is one of the highest angels in the bible.
Something really appeals to me about it.
Do you think it would be likely to be shortened?
What would you think if you met a baby Serafina/Seraphina?
Thank you.

I think it's a beautiful name.

VoleChomper · 30/01/2024 23:05

Do you think it would be likely to be shortened?

In the UK? Undoubtedly.

It's a nice name. Ear catching and dramatic. I was wondering why it gave me witchy vibes but have just remembered a witch called Serafina (a beautiful witch) in Philip Pullman's Northern Lights.

Throwawayme · 30/01/2024 23:07

Really pretty name.

Daisybuttercup12345 · 30/01/2024 23:11

Pretty. Prefer ph spelling.

salamithumbs · 30/01/2024 23:12

I really like it! Prefer the ph spelling but both are nice. I suppose it might get shortened to Sera but that's nice as well imo

Onelife2024 · 30/01/2024 23:14

It’s very pretty and has the option of Seffy as a shortening. Personally my taste is for shorter names unless there is a shortened version of the name that feels comfortable to use as an adult, and I’m not quite sure if Seffy or Seraphina pass the test of names I’d like to introduce myself at work etc (but I know that’s very personal and others probably feel differently).

OctaviaRedQueen · 31/01/2024 09:05

I do love it but for me it would
have to take middle name spot for the reasons above.

Rose Seraphina would be beautiful (following your other posts!)

ConcertaFirstTimer · 31/01/2024 09:07

I love it, with either spelling. Such a pretty name. Could be shortened to Sera or Fina or Rafi - all cute.

FayCarew · 31/01/2024 09:24

It's a bit long and sounds a bit too much like Sofia, Serina, Safiya etc for me
Will be shortened

TheBirdintheCave · 31/01/2024 09:33

I love it but we can't use it as our surname is all S's and F's 😓

Doublebiscuit77 · 31/01/2024 10:12

Really love it. Prefer ph spelling.

DocOck · 31/01/2024 11:45

Such a pretty name, I really like it.

oldnorsesaga · 31/01/2024 12:36

I love it and prefer Seraphina spelling with Sena, Sera or Seffy as nickname. I prefer longer names anyways, not everyone should only choose short names.

Whatabouterry · 31/01/2024 12:39

I like it. I know one who is a teenager and no-one shortens her name.

Mumofgirls2017 · 31/01/2024 12:47

I think it’s beautiful. I know a toddler Seraphina goes by Sephy half the time and she’s so lovely!

DesertSnow · 31/01/2024 13:56

I love it but can't use it as it means 'it will be the end' in my husband's native language

HillyHoney · 31/01/2024 14:03

I like it. I used to work with a very posh double-barrelled gel who had a daughter called Serafina - "Her full name is Serafina Rose Double-Barrell...but we just call her Monkey mwahahaha snort snort" (^laughs in posh°)

I think Seffy or Fi would be nice nicknames. I also know a Persephone and to be honest I think Serafina is much nicer.

DinnaeFashYersel · 31/01/2024 14:04

Far too frilly for me

Finasmum · 31/01/2024 16:49

I’ve got one. She is both fiery and ardent! We spell it Seraphina, although I like the f spelling just as much. Her nickname is Fina. She really likes it because it’s unusual. People always comment that it’s beautiful. I know some people think it’s a bit of a mouthful, but I don’t care and nor does she. I have an unusual name myself and have always liked that about it, so that encouraged me that it would be ok to give her one.

icebubbles · 31/01/2024 17:03

I have a Seraphina. She goes by full name or Sephy but nobody has ever automatically shortened it (they'd follow our lead). I love it and have only had really positive comments

Finasmum · 31/01/2024 17:21

Yep, same @icebubbles - people have only shortened it having heard us call her Fina first.

Ndemikwa · 31/01/2024 17:27

My daughter has same name it's beautiful, when she was new baby people tried to cuts her name short I never let them keep letting them know her name it's not Sera...So far everything called her fully name funny enough when she was baby couldn't pronounce her name and when people asked she was saying her name is summer

MotherOfVizslas · 31/01/2024 17:29

I LOVE it. I know an adult Seraphina and she is beautiful too!

theduchessofspork · 01/02/2024 00:16

I had a lovely cousin Seraphina and she was pretty much called by her full name - but occasionally Sephy

I prefer the ph - it’s more elegant and is the usual Uk spelling (cherubim and seraphim) so will be less likely to be misspelt
