Due our second baby in few weeks and don’t know if baby is a boy or girl!

we’ve kept name choices a secret from family to avoid any unwanted opinions (last time everyone was far more vocal on their opinion than I expected)

but I still want some opinions on names (from people I don’t know personally haha) so what do you guys think of what we like?

our daughter is called Lyla :)

Girl:
Scarlett

Boy:
John
Harry

Not keen on Scarlett.
I really like John. Less keen on Harry.

My son is called John although we mostly call him Johnny. Have never met another one! He was named after his grandfather. Some people will say it’s boring on here but it’s just personal preference.
Harry - also a nice name! More common in younger children but not overwhelmingly so.

sounds like you really like classic boys names, what about James?

Onelife2024 · 27/01/2024 12:24

Love your dd’s name, Lyla. Also love John and Harry. Scarlett isn’t to my usual taste but I don’t mind it at all.

Other ideas -
Amber
Sienna
Iris
Ramona (nn - Marnie)
Darcy
Seren

Lyla and Scarlett
Lyla and Harry
Lyla and John

Great names!

PaulCostinRIP · 27/01/2024 16:17

I like Scarlett.

Lyla and Eve, Evie.

Lyla and Elliott. Felix.

Berlinlover · 27/01/2024 16:52

Scarlett is a stripper name. John is dull. Harry is nice.

HarryCohenPotter · 27/01/2024 17:28

Love Harry! Can't help but thing of fabulous Harry Potter.

DoggusDomesticus · 27/01/2024 17:35

I think John is long overdue a revival! Surprised a PP says it's boring... there aren't many young Johns around so it will be fairly unusual for a baby today.

Harry I find a bit meh. It's also a diminutive.

Scarlett is nice.

Lizzieregina · 27/01/2024 17:38

I actually take care of a Lila and John at the moment!

I like all three of your choices, but only find Scarlett ok. Don’t think I’d choose it or Harry, but they’re fine names.

EnochPowelVowel · 27/01/2024 17:51

John has been mentioned a few times recently, I wonder if it's going to make a trendy comeback along with other dad names.

theduchessofspork · 27/01/2024 23:04

I love John

I think Harry is way overdone and Scarlett has had its day - and is a bit much with Lyla (too showgirl) -Sasha maybe?

Newstarto · 27/01/2024 23:05

John is incredibly old fashioned. There’s about 10 born a year now. But if you love it you love it.

scarlett is common to me

Henry is common and royalty associated

Newstarto · 27/01/2024 23:07

there aren’t many Hyacinths or Harolds either….

Hummusandstuff · 27/01/2024 23:11

John is not comparable to Hyacinth. I believe at one point a large proportion of the English male population was named John. It’s about as classic as it gets. It’s a great name. Very cool.
Harold is an ancient British name too.
Lyla and John. Perfect.

Whether you like them or not, you could hardly describe either of those as boring either!

MaloneMeadow · 28/01/2024 00:42

I really like Scarlett & Harry. John on the other hand is an outlier, very old fashioned and I can’t imagine it suiting a young child

Daisybuttercup12345 · 28/01/2024 01:01

John is nice.
Jonathan
David
James
Caroline
Carla
Jayne

Smallonesaremorejuicy · 28/01/2024 01:07

John is a great strong Classic name
Scarlett is a little dated , but if you like it use it

Suchalicklepumpkin · 28/01/2024 01:18

I love John. Its my 16 year old dd best male friends name and he is the most beautiful, fantastic guy. Her future son some day will probably be named John in some part.

Teeshirt · 28/01/2024 08:12

John is amazing and fresh. Unusual these days but classic. These sorts of names are coming back, so you’re at the start of it.

Scarlett is a bit dated. I’d prefer Henry to Harry, personally.

RuthW · 28/01/2024 10:03

Scarlett is lovely. John is nice but I prefer Jonathan. Harry is awful.

SmallestInTheClass · 28/01/2024 10:06

Love Scarlett and John. I wouldn't choose Harry as makes me think of all the millions of teens who have the name after Harry Potter and twenty/thirty somethings named after Prince Harry. John can also be called Jack as a nickname if he wants an alternative when he's older.

BRB12 · 08/02/2024 22:50

My girls are Lyla & Scarlett ❤️

timoteigirl · 09/02/2024 06:03

I think your girl names are more exciting than boys names. I suggest Timothy

Lyla and Timothy

Lyla and Stella
Lyla and Clara
Lyla and Violet
Lyla and Pearl

Mumlife96 · 09/02/2024 06:29

Just to update, our little girl was born yesterday and we did go with Scarlett ❤️
