So me and my partner had decided on the name Cillian, but I can't quite get my head around the name. I love it but it seems quite popular at the moment and I don't really want a super popular name. Also I keep pronouncing it sillian in my head which I know it's really silly and we could spell it Killian to avoid it but we both prefer it spelt Cillian. Ah! Haha ridiculous I know but it's such a big thing I don't want to regret the name choice. Or him to go through his life having to say Cillian with a C 😂

A new name we both really like is Sonny.... Any opinions or other name suggestions welcome please. I'm due in 9 weeks and really need to get the name sorted. Haha 💙

These names are very different. Can you give us any other ideas of names that were on your short list so we can get a sense of what you both like? What are the reasons you like both these names? Why do they appeal to you?

Not a fan of Cillian.. don’t like the ‘kill’ bit! Sonny is very twee, fine for a young child but it won’t age well when he’s older.

How about:
Conor
Reuben
Sebastian (Seb/Sebi)

Much prefer Cillian but agree I think not everyone will know how to pronounce..

CadyEastman · 24/01/2024 17:14

I know two Sonny's, one in his 30s and one in his 50s, both wear it very well.

Much prefer it to Cillian, I really don't like the "kill" at the beginning.

Onelife2024 · 24/01/2024 17:52

I’m also not keen on Cillian because of “kill” at the beginning.

Sonny is good as a nn for Harrison / Mason / Hudson etc

How about -

Cian
Liam
Finn
Miles
Arlo

I can only hear "Kill Ian" which is a bit morbid. I also would pronounce it Sillian if I saw it in writing. I think Sonny is a nicer name all round.

Alloveragain3 · 24/01/2024 17:55

I don't think the sill-ee-in pronunciation is going to be an issue unless you live in, say, Spain.

I love the name Sonny but DP would never get on board.
