Unique, but classic girl names

I'm a big history-lover, but I'm not drawn to popular names like Elizabeth, Margaret, Catherine, Mary, etc.

I tend to lean towards names like Clare or Elle.

Any more suggestions?

Clare and Elle REALLY aren't even in the same city as "unique" so any ideas on what less ordinary names you like??

alexwm · 23/01/2024 03:14

Without meaning to piss on your chips OP...you really can't have 'unique' AND 'classic' 🤷‍♀️ in the same sentence. Unique by its very definition means 'one of a kind' 'unlike any other'. The definition of 'classic' means 'judged over a period of time...' so 🤷‍♀️

If a name is unique it's a complete one-off, so you won't find one that's a classic.

Elle is not classic and there are probably thousands of El-, -elle, and -ella names registered every year.

Clare is a classic but Clare and Claire was so popular in my age group that it is far from unique.

If you name your baby Clare, she'll probably not know another one her age, but there might be a few called Clara.

"Unique" as pps have said means a total one off but I get what you mean!

I really love Mary, Sarah, Jane and Joan

DavinaTheDonkey · 23/01/2024 11:32

Ooooh NOT mary, sorry

DavinaTheDonkey · 23/01/2024 11:34

For a british & irish history theme;

Maude / Matilda (like the Empress)
Guinevere
Grainne (irish pirate queen)

If you like Greek myths:

Melissa
Ariadne
Athena?

NotFastButFurious · 23/01/2024 12:56

It’s never suggested on here but I adore the name April. Was going to use it for DC2 but he was a boy!

drspouse · 23/01/2024 12:58

I don't know any baby Catherine, Elizabeth, Margaret or Mary. So those would probably be unique among her acquaintance.

DavinaTheDonkey · 23/01/2024 13:06

How about Isolde (iz-ol-duh)?
