Quinn for a boy?

Quinn is my absolute favourite girl name and if I'd been having a girl I'd have used it in a heartbeat. I know it's unisex but it's always been more of a girls name to me... I think I read it's around 5 x more popular for a girl than it is for a boy but it is on the rise for boys apparently.

Question is what do you think of it for a boy? Having a boy and totally stuck for a name! Does your mind immediately associate it with a girl?

Other names that are unisex but I see more as girls

  • Aubrey
  • Addison
  • Avery

Ha ha - my first thought is there was a famous pop song about an Eskimo by Manfred Mann (originally by Bob Dylan) in the late 1960s with a catchy hook;

’Come all without, Come all Within, You’ll not see Nothing like the Mighty Quinn’

You might want to look it up on YouTube

Not sure if I like it as a name tbh

Smallonesaremorejuicy · 22/01/2024 11:45

I really like it .

Purplecatshopaholic · 22/01/2024 11:48

I know a boy called Quinn. Lovely boys name imo.

DappledThings · 22/01/2024 11:50

It always sounds rude to me. Like a combination of quim and cunt. Those Quinny buggies always make me snigger for that.

Aubrey is a boy's name and I think is ridiculous on a girl. Addison has son in it so also sounds daft for a girl (and like a taxi). Avery just sounds made up so could be boy or girl.

FayCarew · 22/01/2024 11:53

Quinn - surname
Aubrey - man's name or surname
Addison - surname
Avery - surname

You could call him Quentin, unless that's now considered a girl's name.

Surnames used as names tend to date badly esp. if used for girls. (Shirley, Leslie, Linday, Tracy etc)

VaddaABeetch · 22/01/2024 11:55

Quinn is a male name.

Seadreamers · 22/01/2024 11:55

I know a boy called Quinn, who is about 4. I’ve never heard of it as a girls name.

The other names you list sound more like boys names or surnames to me.

muddyford · 22/01/2024 11:57

The only Quin I know is a boy (and spells it with one N) . Aubrey is a lovely boy's name. Addison - boy. Avery - surname, was at school with a family of them.

MarmiteyCrumpets · 22/01/2024 11:59

I'd go for Quentin with Quin as a nickname.

MissyB1 · 22/01/2024 11:59

Quinn is ok, but I prefer Quinlan which is an Irish boys name meaning fit and strong.

Onelife2024 · 22/01/2024 12:30

They all sound quite feminine to me.

How about -

Rowan
Logan
Jordan
Cameron
Finlay
Hayden

peaceinourtime · 22/01/2024 12:44

The first person who I knew with the Quinn is male and nearly 40. Since then all the Quinn’s have heard of have been girls. So I think it’s a difficult one.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 22/01/2024 12:45

I only know of one person called Quinn and he's a boy.

CoddledAsAMommet · 22/01/2024 12:54

I only know a boy one (about 10ish) but I admit to always mentally prefacing it with 'The Mighty'.

LosGibertyisacelebration · 22/01/2024 13:02

I have a Quinn, he's a boy and not the only boy called Quinn in his school. Obviously I love it and I'm proud of his name. No matter what you name your baby someone somewhere will find issue with it (probably more than one someone) so you need to go with your own feelings on it.

Joonio · 22/01/2024 13:04

Addison sounds like a disease.

pontipinemum · 22/01/2024 15:33

To me Quinn is a surname. It used to be the name of a large supermarket in Ireland - Superquinn

Kiwiburgh · 22/01/2024 17:46

I think Quinn works well for both. I know a boy and girl toddler with this name and they both suit it.
I feel Addison and Aubrey are more popular currently as girls names. Not a fan of Avery.

swedishmom24 · 22/01/2024 19:54

I went to school with a boy called Quinn and always thought what a beautiful name it was
