It's a family name but I really don't know any small kids named Richard..

Underused classic

PamelaParis · 20/01/2024 22:42

Fine if you're planning on giving birth to a 50 year old bloke. There are no baby Richards for a reason.

VenusClapTrap · 20/01/2024 22:44

I love it. It was on my shortlist. A baby Richard would sound fresh and would be the only one in a sea of Arlos and Teddys.

CreateHope · 20/01/2024 22:45

I know a 5yr old Richard 😄

margegunderson · 20/01/2024 22:45

Lovely classic.

Danikm151 · 20/01/2024 22:46

My son’s middle name is Richard.
you can shorten it to Ricky as a child and then when he’s older he can decide.

I think it’s a great name

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 20/01/2024 22:47

I quite like it. I agree with Venus (above) that it would sound fresh. It's different, but not 'out there' different. I came across an Adrian the other day - same sort of vibe.

Ellysetta · 20/01/2024 22:49

Classic and classy, I like it. With a child I’d nickname him Rick or Ricky

ArnieLinson · 20/01/2024 22:50

Dick?

kindleonthefloor · 20/01/2024 22:51

I would try and keep it as Richard as I jsut really like the name.

I actually think Dickie is a cute nn but obviously wouldn't use it now

Just no

Sunflower8848 · 20/01/2024 22:53

Rich or Dick, neither are great…

SkaneTos · 20/01/2024 22:54

Richard is a classic name.

Nicknames can also be Rich, Rick, or Ricky.

WinterSnowFox · 20/01/2024 22:54

dick. No. And Ricky is just awful

KarenNotAKaren · 20/01/2024 22:55

Unless you’re giving birth to a middle aged man - no

2chocolateoranges · 20/01/2024 22:55

Middle name, yes. First name , no.

SunnieShine · 20/01/2024 22:56

I really like it, a true classic.

Ilovemyshed · 20/01/2024 22:57

Diccon

Herbiebanannas · 20/01/2024 22:57

Don’t inflict this on a child

I know a 9 year old Richard 🤷🏻‍♀️
It’s a lovely name.

BananaSplitsss · 20/01/2024 22:58

I like it. I know a few people who go by Rich.

Classic name.

samestyle · 20/01/2024 23:00

I think it's a nice classic name, kids in his won't know the outdated nicknames, I've known a few Richards that haven't been shortened.

blackpanth · 20/01/2024 23:02

Nope

BoohooWoohoo · 20/01/2024 23:03

Makes me think of Eastenders but nobody your baby’s age will know that reference

I would establish the nickname quickly (Rick? Ricky? Rich? Richie?) so that Dick isn’t used or mentioned.
