Juliet or Penelope?

Would so appreciate some baby name help! I’m living in the US and they have very different taste in names here so I’m struggling to get opinions (don’t want to ask my family/friends at home in case they hate both)
I’m due the day before Valentine’s Day and trying to decide this baby’s name, have narrowed it down to Juliet or Penelope. For context her brother is George. My husband prefers Penelope but seeing as I’ve done all the hard work and he is giving his surname I’m the decider.
Thanks in advance for the advice!

Penelope because penny is way better than Julie.

RosesAndHellebores · 17/01/2024 21:47

I think they are equally nice. I think Penelope (Penny/Nell) is better with George. Juliet and George sound a bit clunky when said together

PickledScrump · 17/01/2024 21:50

Penelope is absolutely beautiful, Juliet is nice but really clashes with George

Wearegettingfedup · 17/01/2024 21:51

I definitely prefer Juliette. Have never considered this beautiful name to be shortened to Julie . Actually two of my best friends are called Julie and Julia so 🤷‍♀️

justsomepandq · 17/01/2024 21:54

Two of my favourite girls names.

I would go with Penelope (Nell)

MaloneMeadow · 17/01/2024 22:08

I think they’re both lovely. I prefer Penelope in itself but the Penny/Nell nicknames would really put me off

scaredofff · 17/01/2024 22:10

Awwww, Penny (Penelope) for sure. I forgot how beautiful the name is until I saw it written xxx

TheCave · 17/01/2024 22:10

If you are into nicknames, Jet or Jettie works for Juliet and those go well with George I think.

(I have a Juliet so am biased!)

SkaneTos · 17/01/2024 22:11

I think they are both lovely names!

Pemba · 17/01/2024 22:16

I find Juliet much more beautiful (or Julia?), never been fond of Penelope. A bit 'jolly hockey sticks' as they used to say, and I find Penny dull.

GoodVibesHere · 17/01/2024 22:16

Penelope is much nicer.

Onelife2024 · 17/01/2024 22:50

Both are lovely names. I have a George and I think I would go for Penelope as I prefer the nn’s (particularly Penny).

Wearegettingfedup · 18/01/2024 00:09

My children have very different names ,it never occurred to me to choose matching names . They have different personalities ,different interests!

KayEmAy · 18/01/2024 00:46

Juliet all day<3

WagWoofWalkMeeoow · 18/01/2024 00:52

I like Juliette, I don't like Oenelope.

dont like Juliette being shortened, but I know I'd do it! (Don't mind Ettie too much though

I like Penny (& other options)

user1492757084 · 18/01/2024 08:24

Both are nice.
I prefer Juliet or Julia

Penny is fine, though I would use nick name Polly or Poppy
Jules is sweet, Julie is gorgeous.

theduchessofspork · 18/01/2024 08:26

Juliet

Because much as I like Penelope it always gets shortened and I really don’t like the drippy Penny.

Most Juliets and Julias I know are called by their full names, although I quite like Julie anyway.

If you do use Penelope you could always impose Nell.

KirstenBlest · 18/01/2024 11:26

Prefer Juliet but don't like it said as Julie-ette and I don't like Jools/Jules for a girl, so Penelope. Use Juliet as a middle name.

NameChangePlease4 · 18/01/2024 23:28

Both lovely! Perhaps a tiny preference for Penelope when paired with George

Bbq1 · 19/01/2024 00:24

Penelope/Penny isn't a pretty name name and getting really common nowadays. Growing up, i had a friend who had an older sister called Penelope. I didn't like the name then but she was the only one i ever knew. Now, i hear babies being named Penny regularly. Tuppence is an actual name which I think is v cute. Juliet/Juliette is a lovely name. If you want old names why not consider Kitty, Victoria, Sissy, Clarissa, Ariadne, Clara, Lucy, Sylvie/Sylvia, Joanie, Jeanie, Estelle/Stella, Audrey, Dolores, Dorothy, Margaret, Mary, Susannah...

Tuelanak · 19/01/2024 00:33

Juliet is so beautiful

Smallonesaremorejuicy · 19/01/2024 02:09

Juliette is beautiful

DramaAlpaca · 19/01/2024 05:13

I really don't like Penny, even though I love Penelope. I like Nell very much, but Nellie is hideous. I'd have to avoid Penelope for that reason, I think.

Juliet is gorgeous, as long as it's pronounced correctly. It's not the same as Juliette. It's JOOL-yet, with the emphasis firmly on the first syllable, as in Romeo and...

Juliette is a French name which has the stress on the last syllable. It has quite a different vibe, much more frilly.

Also it could cause confusion with spelling. Even though OP has specified Juliet in her post, people are replying with the spelling Juliette.

TheCave · 19/01/2024 11:12

As someone with a Juliet I don't find that people often misspell her name. A few people sure, but I also have a child with a more straightforwardly spelt name and still get errors with her name too. Not a major issue in my experience.

Newbeginningsandhappy · 19/01/2024 11:13

Love them both but slight preference for Penelope.
