Please could you tell me which name you like best, pros and cons, and other suggestion of a similar vein to Juliette, Cordelia and Lavinia?

Juliette pretty & innocuous
Cordelia I just think it’s a bit cheeky lads gawping at a lassie, innit. Cor! Delia
Lavinia I like this

congratulations on pg

Juliette is lovely. I quite like Cordelia, but as the previous poster said, there's the "Cor!" aspect.

Lavinia: no! Too strongly associated with "lavatory"!

I take it you're a Shakespeare fan?

Lifeinlists · 14/01/2024 19:44

Juliet with that spelling.Lovely name. I like Julia too.
The only Cordelia I know is known as Coco.
What about Susanna (I prefer it without the H). I know one who is always known by the full name.

You're not serious about Lavinia, surely?

MythicBish · 14/01/2024 19:47

Are you me? These are literally my top 3 girls names. I do prefer the Juliet spelling personally.

maybe to help narrow it down think of which nicknames derived from the names you prefer. I’m not a fan of nicknames but sometimes it’s inevitable and it would be a shame to have picked a name but hate the nickname options.

juliet- jules (not a fan) Ettie/Etta

cordelia- Cora, DeeDee, Lia, Coco

lavinia - Livvy, Liv, Nia, Vinnie?

Zone2NorthLondon · 14/01/2024 19:47

All very English department names. They’re very Hampstead names, hear them in the artisanal bakery

Onelife2024 · 14/01/2024 20:16

I love Juliette (and love pp suggestion of Ettie as a nn)

Cordelia is a bit pretentious to me - but I could probably come round to it if I knew a girl called it. I can’t think of a nice nn and it would be too long for me to want to use as a full name personally

Sorry Lavinia isn’t to my taste.

Juliet is better
Cordelia like but also like Cornelia and Delia

GenXisthebest · 14/01/2024 21:03

Juliette is my favourite

Purtyburty · 14/01/2024 21:07

Thank you guys - would still appreciate more feedback but I think Lavinia is going off the list!

I prefer Juliet, but wouldn’t have Juliette.
Cordelia is OK.
I can’t warm to Lavinia.

Awrite · 14/01/2024 21:13

Love, love, love Juliette. Wanted it for dc2 if we had a girl but we had a boy.

Not sure why I didn't think of it for dc1.

Is Caitlin similar? Marianne?

No to Lavinia (as you have now said).

Cordelia has strong associations to Buffy for me. Not a bad thing. Quite harsh sounding to my ear though.

ChelseeDagger · 14/01/2024 21:15

I love Lavinia the most!

janfebmarchapril · 14/01/2024 21:17

Juliette such a beautiful elegant underused name.
Cordelia- i like it but don't love it
Lavinia- not a fan

EffieGraysDisappointingWeddingNight · 14/01/2024 21:20

I like Juliette best. And with this spelling it's clear you want the emphasis on the ette sound whereas with Juliet lots of people put the emphasis on the first syllable.

Cordelia reminds me of Anne Shirley wanting to be called Lady Cordelia Fitzgerald instead of plain Anne Shirley. Bit too frilly for me.

Lavinia - really don't like the Lav sound.

lightelmqueen · 14/01/2024 21:21

Juliet is my favourite, followed by Lavinia. I don't like Cordelia, sorry.

How about Rosalind? I always wanted to be called this as a child after reading it in a book

Retrievemysanity · 14/01/2024 21:21

I like Juliet with this spelling. Other version reminds me of serviette. Not a fan of Cordelia, I think of blackcurrant cordial. I actually don’t mind Lavinia.

PickledScrump · 14/01/2024 23:13

My nan was a Lavinia and got vin, as much as I wanted to like it I never could.

Cordelia I don’t like

Juliette is beautiful with that spelling and pronunciation, Juliet I don’t like quite as much

vivienne
iliana
felicity
Yvette
Angelica
Evangeline
Genevieve

Wearegettingfedup · 14/01/2024 23:21

Juliette hands down.

Charlieradioalphapapa · 14/01/2024 23:28

Cordelia - love it
Juliette - like it but a
Lavinia not keen. Glad your taken it off list. Too many negative associations with the lav .

Other ideas:
Georgina
Clementine
Constance
Francesca
Clemency
Liberty
Cadence
Emmeline
Christabel

Catandsquirrel · 14/01/2024 23:30

Of those, Cordelia.

Not Lavinia, I'm afraid, due to the Lav association. Don't love it anyway to be honest. I personally find the sound all frill without substance.

If you would consider Juliet then I much prefer that to Juliette. I know it is very similar just the simplicity is more refreshing and cooler.

Strawberrycheesecake7 · 14/01/2024 23:33

Juliette is pretty. I’m not a fan of the other two personally.

oldnorsesaga · 15/01/2024 05:43

I like Cordelia the best.

MariaVT65 · 15/01/2024 05:44

I have nothing against ‘posh’ but the second two sound very posh to me!

pontipinemum · 15/01/2024 11:53

Juliette is my favourite. I don't like Lavinia at all (sorry)
