Please could you tell me which name you like best, pros and cons, and other suggestion of a similar vein to Juliette, Cordelia and Lavinia?

Juliet is the nicest name on you list. Lavinia rhymes with tinea

shoopshoopdedoo · 15/01/2024 15:14

I love Juliet (prefer this spelling). Not keen on Cordelia. Dislike Lavinia - I immediately think of lavatory!

theduchessofspork · 15/01/2024 21:31

Cordelia - I like Cordy and she has good literary associations

Juliet is nice too, I wouldn’t spell it Juliette because it will be irritatingly misspelt and it’s a bit fussy

I have a friend who has a teen Lavinia who is not teased (as far as I know), but it would slightly worry me..

singswithitsfingers · 15/01/2024 21:35

I have a good friend called Lavinia so it has nice associations. It doesn't get shortened in her case, but I don't know if it did in childhood. Cordelia is too closely associated with King Lear for me. Juliet is nice and classic. As pp have said, Julia and Rosalind also lovely.

itsannie86 · 16/01/2024 12:13

What could Cordelia be shortened to - Delia? Cord? For this reason, no. It would be a mouthful to say the full name constantly. Lavinia has the same problem in my opinion. Juliette is nice.

Marcipex · 16/01/2024 12:24

Juliet is beautiful.

Cordelia is okay, I rather like Delia anyway.

Lavinia, absolutely not.

Callista

WaltzingWaters · 16/01/2024 12:27

I love Juliet (prefer that spelling personally).
Cordelia I’m not a fan of - but I do like nn’s like Coco, Cora.
Lavinia, sorry, not a fan at all.

Theoldwoman · 16/01/2024 12:30

I love Juliet, not the other two at all.

How about;

Genevieve
Lucille
Caroline
Frances
Freda
Lillian
Olive
Hilary
Kate

Livilalaland567 · 16/01/2024 12:33

Juliet, because that's how everyone will spell it so she'd have to spend her life correcting people otherwise! Lovely name though.

You may also like Julianna

WinterLobelia · 16/01/2024 12:34

Juliette with that spelling. Very pretty.

Cordelia sounds harsh to me.

Lavinia I like- but the Lav thing.

What about Laetitia?

C0keZer0 · 16/01/2024 12:41

My best friend is Lavinia and i absolutely love it.

WhatNextVera · 16/01/2024 12:46

Juliette is quite nice
Celestial, not so keen - Celine might be a better option

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 16/01/2024 18:56

I prefer Juliet to Juliette, but it’s a lovely name. My favourite of your 3. Cordelia is good too. Are you looking for Shakespeare inspired names or is it just a coincidence?

Lavinia I’m not so keen on. She is such tragic character in Titus Andronicus. Obviously Cordelia and Juliet don’t have a happy time of it but Lavinia’s fate is so awful it would put me off the name.

In a similar vein, have you thought of Helena, Miranda, Ophelia, Rosalind or Perdita?

I also really like Ianthe.

letitialane · 16/01/2024 18:57

Juliette - pretty, timeless & suitable for all ages as she grows!

Milange · 16/01/2024 20:01

Purtyburty · 14/01/2024 21:07

Thank you guys - would still appreciate more feedback but I think Lavinia is going off the list!

It’s a lovely name when said as one (sounds more like LUvinia to me), but it does only lend itself to being Lav or Lavvy for short.

ChildrenOfTheQuorn · 16/01/2024 20:06

I love your taste! My DD was almost a Lavinia but I didn't like the Vinnie nn. Juliette is nice, but Cordelia (nn Cordy) is GORGEOUS. It gets my vote :)

I don't think any of these are in the same vein as the OP's choices... 🤨

KayEmAy · 16/01/2024 20:15

Juliette is #1 for me, just a long time favorite

I like Cordelia more as a middle name, and Lavinia is just not my style

Juliette - nice but the ending Shakespeare gave her puts me off.

Cordelia - a good strong name. Dee Dee makes a cute nickname too.

Lavinia - to me this sounds a bit like it could be a part of the female anatomy.

LulooLemon · 16/01/2024 22:46

Juliet is lovely. But be aware of two different pronunciations:

JU-li-et and Ju-li-ET.

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 16/01/2024 22:56

Love Juliet

Prefer Cressida and Carenza to Cordelia

Not keen on Lavinia

Purtyburty · 17/01/2024 17:03

Thank you for all your replies. Juliette/Juliet seems to be the strong favourite. I will consider the spelling. I still like Cordelia and lije the nickname Cordy. I love the nickname Jet for Juliette but that would be more of a cute family thing rather than it be what she goes as at school or anything! My cons for Juliet are people not pronouncing the 't' at the end and the nn Julie I am not keen on. Cordelia, my cons are it's a bit too frilly. Lavinia is definitely off the list. I quite like Adaline?

Goneril? Desdemona? 😂

Someone likes Shakespeare! Considering those characters' fates, I'd steer clear!

PersephonePomegranate23 · 17/01/2024 17:19

Juliette - nice but the ending Shakespeare gave her puts me off.

You don't want to know what happens to Lavinia then!!
