Nell

MarshmallowWorld · 14/01/2024 07:59

Maeve

user1492757084 · 14/01/2024 07:59

Ornella is sweet and different.
Ornie is not as nice as Nell.
India and Beatrix would be my other faves.

Suggestions you might like ..
Aster
Helen

Mumofgirls2017 · 14/01/2024 08:12

Maeve, Bonnie or esther

DuchessOfSausaage · 14/01/2024 08:54

Esther or Nell
Prefer Beatrice to Beatrix
Maeve, Margot and Bonnie are a bit too trendy
India too colonial
Ornella is a bit too different and lots of -ella and -elle names are popular

I'll throw in Cornelia and Margarita

GenXisthebest · 14/01/2024 08:56

Love Esther and Bonnie.

FairfaxAikmann · 14/01/2024 08:58

Ornella (Nell for short) or just Nell. - I like Nell but I read the RN as an M. Don't like.

Maeve - like
Bonnie - very twee. Fine on a young child, or a golden retriever, less so for an adult.
India - bit hippy for my tastes. Overdone.
Esther - harsh sound but I don't hate^^ it
Margot - far too common
Beatrix

FairfaxAikmann · 14/01/2024 08:58

Sent too soon.

Beatrix I love. Favourite from your list.

Bathtimebarbara · 14/01/2024 08:59

Nell but never heard of Ornella and not sure about it. But Nell itself is lovely

Onelife2024 · 14/01/2024 09:23

I love Esther - simple, pretty, nice for all ages, not trendy or over used at the moment

Maeve is my second favourite - also simple, pretty, nice for all ages, but depends if you mind it being quite trendy at the moment

Beatrix is nice - Bea is a sweet nn, not sure what I’d shorten it to as an adult / teen?

Margot - it’s nice, but feels a bit “of the moment” if you don’t mind that?

Bonnie - I wouldn’t like to be called this as an adult

India - some colonial issues

Ornella (Nell for short) - sorry I’m not keen on this. I like Penelope or Helena to get Nell as a nn?

Doublebiscuit77 · 14/01/2024 13:04

Nell, Bonnie or Beatrix

PivotPivotmakingmargaritas · 14/01/2024 13:08
  1. Esther
  2. Beatrix
  3. Maeve - just think a lot of people will struggle to say it properly…

Ornella (Nell for short) or just Nell… nope
Maeve
Bonnie… as a nickname cute but not a full name
India …. No it’s a country not a name
Esther… favourite
Margot… will age quickly
Beatrix… second favourite

There was a lady recently on mumsnet called India who felt embarrassed by her name due to the colonial ties which I thought was an interesting viewpoint

Notmetoo · 14/01/2024 16:00

Maeve and Esther are my favourites I don't like Margot for some reason or Bonnie which to me doesn't sound like a name I can take seriously. I have never heard of Ornela but Nell is nice .The others are Ok
But that's just my taste.

MaloneMeadow · 14/01/2024 22:30

Maeve is my favourite but I love India as well.
Margot is nice but will probably date quite quickly as it’s so popular at the minute. Not a fan of Beatrix as it feels very story book but I absolutely adore Beatrice. Esther is just alright

Ornella/Nell is awful. Reminds me of an elephant! Bonnie I find very cringey and twee

DesertSnow · 15/01/2024 13:58

Nell or Esther

peaceinourtime · 15/01/2024 14:54

Bonnie

tokesqueen · 15/01/2024 15:15

Esther.
No more Margots please!!

LondonGirl1992 · 15/01/2024 15:18

Thanks so much for all to the help all! I think we are between India (Indy/Indie for short) or Maeve now!

Definitely Maeve!

India has quite colonial associations if you aren’t of Indian heritage, so I’d go for Maeve of the two

theduchessofspork · 15/01/2024 21:29

… although personally I like Esther

chocolatenutcase · 15/01/2024 21:43

Re Ornella or Nell for short.
Nell is also short for Eleanor or Fenella
I love Maeve but not sure that is gaining in popularity so there might be a few others of the same age.

Daisybuttercup12345 · 15/01/2024 22:46

Bonnie and Beatrice.

Notlongtogo2 · 16/01/2024 06:40

Of the two, I’d go with Maeve.
Maybe choose India if you love the country?

Alternatively, I think Esther is lovely and I like Beatrice (nn Bea).

KayEmAy · 16/01/2024 20:23

Personal order of preference -

  1. India
  2. Maeve
  3. Nell
  4. Beatrix
  5. Bonnie
  6. Margot
  7. Ornella
  8. Esther
