Could you let me know what you think of Lyla for a girl, please?

Pronounced ly-la. I don't like any other spellings.

ourflagmeansdeath · 12/01/2024 00:45

Really pretty.

Usamanaeem · 12/01/2024 01:04

It sounds pretty

HannahMontanasbanana · 12/01/2024 01:06

Nice, and good at all ages

Onelife2024 · 12/01/2024 05:44

Love it!

sawnotseen · 12/01/2024 05:50

Lovely name. I have a dear friend named Lyla (40s) and she is absolutely wonderful, beautiful inside and out. Her heritage is Indian but generations ago. Go for it!

Nap1983 · 12/01/2024 05:58

really like it! Lovely name.

BoleynMemories13 · 12/01/2024 06:56

Yes I like it. It is quite trendy right now but not in a bad way in that it's literally everywhere right now, just that it's currently on an upward curve.

SallyWD · 12/01/2024 07:30

I do really like it but agree it's one of those trendy names.

KirstenBlest · 12/01/2024 10:51

Merges into all the Lily, Lyra, Lola, Layla, Isla, Mila type names.

NachosAndCheese · 12/01/2024 13:45

It’s lovely but incredibly popular and becomes dull if you just pair it with the filler middle names of Rose/Grace/May.

Alloveragain3 · 12/01/2024 13:51

Really nice

pounceonahairymouse · 12/01/2024 14:28

Somewhere between meh and sweet. If I met someone with the name I wouldn't think twice but this is a forum for analysis so I'll say that it reminds me of: flowers, bohemians, Pvc Inflatable Lilo, Lilo and Stitch, other vowel heavy names that are currently popular like Isla, Lola, Lyra, Layla, Milo. I can envision it being chosen by a reality TV star from Towie, as well as by the actress Sienna Miller. Hippyish, ditsy, sweet, forgettable and inoffensive.

Overall, I do think I like the name, just not enough to use it personally.

SkaneTos · 12/01/2024 15:33

It's a nice name.
I don't know anyone with that spelling, though, but it's a nice name.

This ^^

It's definitely one of those names that just blends in with a large amount of names that are currently popular amongst young girls. It's a nice enough name but it does sometimes start to feel like all the little girls have the same name.

theduchessofspork · 12/01/2024 19:35

It makes me think of inflatable lilos

It blends with all the Lola/Luna/Lena/lyra/Luna/Leila names around as pp has said

And it’s a bit Lola the showgirl

So no from me

Flopsy145 · 18/02/2024 16:30

I really like it, it was high on my list before we found out we were having a boy. I also liked Lyra

RosieIs44 · 18/02/2024 16:34

My friend’s daughter is called this but different spelling. Might just be me, but even after 8 years I find it so hard not to call her “Leila”. Every. Time

buzzlightyearsaway · 18/02/2024 16:35

I really liked it when pregnant but glad i didnt choose it as i think it's a bit in the chav side

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 18/02/2024 18:13

Pretty!!

Heartbreaktuna · 18/02/2024 19:28

I'm not a fan because it feels like half a name, there is a lyla in my DS class and without fail I say it wrong every time. like it should be Delilah

GingerSquid · 18/02/2024 21:30

Lyra is the classiest of all those L names in my opinion, followed by Lily (classic, but over done now) and then Lyla / Lila. I do really like the sound of all three and I suppose they are popular for good reason. Just be aware of the sheer volume of these type of names in the UK; they do become somewhat interchangeable. I don’t understand the popularity of the Spanish ones like Lola and Luna as these are a little low rent in Spain (where I live) and are reserved for pets and nicknames for performers; middle class Spaniards don’t touch them (they use names like Clara, Alba and Alma).

Moonshine5 · 18/02/2024 21:51

Love it

OopsieeDaisy · 18/02/2024 22:35

As a pp said, near me it’s also a bit of a chav name.
