Which would you choose?

We have narrowed it down (we are having a surprise so have had to pick both boys and girls names) - which do you prefer and why. We have a two syllable surname and prefer classical names…

Boy - Alasdair or Alexander
Girl - Cecilia or Georgiana

Alasdair and Cecilia. I like Georgiana, but the multiple pronunciations puts me off a bit.

I absolutely love Alasdair - strong, classic and slightly less common than Alexander. Both of your girls names are a little bit frilly for my taste - my preference would be Georgiana but I'm not sure how ofter her full name would get used? Surely she would just get shortened to Georgie or George?

Alexander, its just always been a favourite of mine. I do like Alasdair too, but not as much.

I prefer Cecilia for girls choice - love the nn Cece.

Celia is better then Cecelia and less of a mouthful.

Alexander has better shortening options for me. I love Cece but not Cecelia.

Alasdair. I know so many Alex/XAnders.

Georgiana is a mouthful and I think Cecilia is really frumpy but I'd chose Georgiana.

Best advice is just see what the baby suits when born. There's no law requiring you to choose beforehand.

I think with Georgiana you'll get several different pronunciations - Georjana, George-y-ana, Georgie Anna, Geor-jayna etc.

Both the girl's names will get misspelt (Cecelia and Gorgiana/Georgina etc)

Alasdair has several different spellings, and some will say Ala-stair and some allister.

Alexander will almost certainly be shortened.

I like both your boys' names equally.

Alexander is lovely. Alasdair is quite nice, not too commonly used, but prefer the shortenings for Alexander.

I’m not keen on longer names unless they have really nice shortenings, as people rarely use full versions of 4 syllable names long term - Cecelia will get CeCe - which is nice for a young girl but I don’t like it for an adult. Georgiana will get Georgie or George which I’m not keen on. I prefer Celia and Georgia.

i think both girl names are lovely and would work with a two syllable surname.

these are classic and strong, elegant, dignified.
also internationally understood.
the others are not bad, but confusion over spelling of alasdair rather than alastair, and mix up georgiana and georgina.

Alexander and Cecilia are my favourites.
I like Alex, Sandy and Xander. Cecilia has a nice sound and is the name of the patron Saint of music.

Alasdair - love this name, they'll probably only be one in the school whereas there maybe other Alex's!

Love Cecilia - I'm biased as we have this as a middle name.

I like both your boys names - I have close family members with those names so I can't imagine using either myself, but they're both great!

I also like your girls names very much but personally I'd choose Cecily, it's so pretty and elegant and less fussy than Cecilia. I also prefer Georgia to Georgiana for the same reason.

Love both boys names - slight preference for Alasdair (although I'd go for Alistair unless you're Scottish).

Prefer Cecilia for a girl.
