We don't have any on our list so far, except for Chloe which is quite mainstream, but it seems like they are very trendy now and I just thought about this today and was wondering which one you think will become popular next.

Right now Penelope is really popular as well as Athena. I think Daphne, Apollo, Atlas are all rising quickly. Zoe, Chloe and Phoebe were popular in the past.

Which one of these has a chance and have you noticed any? I'm just so curious:

Antigone - I heard this is rising quickly among posh people, can anyone confirm?

Chione

Persephone - Saw this a few times, too.

Calliope

Nephele

Nike

Atlas

Apollo

Ares - I've seen this a few times too.

Eurydice

Any ideas?

It's just out of curiosity, because I'm intrigued. The only one on our list so far is Chloe, but I'm thinking about adding Phoebe again. I guess we're not brave enough for Persephone, even though I like it.

Neither family is Nigerian, one family is Scandinavian.
They pronounce her name "Nii-keh". All their children have fairly unusual names.
I am not sure how the other family pronounces the name.

Weird meaning (lover of horses )but Philippa and Pippa is a nice nickname providing you aren't in Italy

(The name Philip has the same meaning.)

The nickname Pippa does not work in Sweden either... I always giggle a little bit inside when I read about Pippa Middleton, but I know it's a common nickname in the UK.

I had Clio and Penelope on the short list for dd some 20+ years ago. Ds might have been a Clio if he’d been a girl

In classical mythology, the Phoenix was male, not female. And Atlas was a primitive bloke who had to carry the world - or in some versions, the celestial spheres(aka the solar system) - on his shoulders. That was a punishment for rebelling against later gods

Perhaps this does not matter. Each to their own.

There are TWO girls called Artemis in my youngest's primary school.

I know a boy as well.

Lots of Elena type names.

Wonderballs · 05/09/2024 21:14

At my kids’ infant school there are two Ares, a Heracles, Daphne, Atlas and Danae. A colleague’s daughter is called Nemesis, presumably for the goddess rather than the Alton Towers ride but could be either.

Jesus, poor kids all but especially Nemesis.
