How many do you know - Caspar or Rafael

Hi all. Baby due in a few weeks. We are decided on name for a girl, boy is proving trickier. We have settled on either Caspar or Rafael. I'm not asking for options on these (or spelling variations) as it will definitely be one of these names and we love both. However, I would like to know how popular/common they are (I don't know many babies/primary age children) - they are not names I hear often but have read on here about unusual names and then people finding there are several in a class. I have also looked on Dark Greener website - but I'd like some anecdotal experiences. So please let me know if you know any boys with these names, how old they are and what region you live in. Many thanks!

DD is 4, in reception - there is a “Raf” in her class, same spelling

Mumoftwo1312 · 29/12/2023 18:48

I have taught literally almost a dozen Rafaels, sometimes shortened to Rafe, Raf and Rafi.

Never taught a Caspar but I've taught two Jaspers which is from the same root name.

Independent secondary

1 of each. Neither born in the UK

Littlegoth · 29/12/2023 18:49

Mama2six · 29/12/2023 18:49

There is 2 Rafael in my dd school never heard of a Caspar

Bainbridgemews · 29/12/2023 18:50

Know one Caspar but quite a few Raffis. It's not common but far from unusual and you could easily have two in a class (as you can with any name that isn't completely obscure). East Midlands.

One Rafe that might be Raphael. One human Kaspar and one cat Casper

lavagal · 29/12/2023 18:52

I know one of each both under 6yrs old. Both beautiful names - raf slightly wins for me based on the variations you can choose as he grows

PrivateSchoolTeacherParent · 29/12/2023 18:55

Currently teach one of each in secondary. Although spelled "Raphael."

BoleynMemories13 · 29/12/2023 18:56

I know one Raphael age 10 and one Casper age 2 months (so neither spelt your chosen ways).

Neither seem to be popular around me for humans, although I do know of a few dogs and a cat called Casper!

MalcolmTuckersDisdainfulSneer · 29/12/2023 18:57

1 x Kasper (preschooler)
1 x Raphael (40 yo)

eddiemairswife · 29/12/2023 18:57

The Wise Man and the artist.

lordloveadog · 29/12/2023 18:58

One of each

Newsenmum · 29/12/2023 18:58

I know of one adult ‘Caspar’ (not British born).
1 x Raphael who is five.

These aren’t even people I’m close to. Both good names! And not used much.

Retrievemysanity · 29/12/2023 18:58

We are in West Midlands with teenage DDs and never come across either.

Gnomegnomegnome · 29/12/2023 18:58

I know three Caspers and one Rafael but all are adults.

Gorgeous names @Karmaismycat congratulations !

MissingMoominMamma · 29/12/2023 18:59

I know one adult Rafael.

He’s fucking gorgeous.

googledidnthelp · 29/12/2023 18:59

Just one Caspar

MerryChristmasToYou · 29/12/2023 18:59

Raphael is popular for little boys where I live.

Islandermummy · 29/12/2023 18:59

I know a Rafael (adult, Spanish speaker) and a Caspian. No Caspars.

MalcolmTuckersDisdainfulSneer · 29/12/2023 18:59

I know of a few more Rafis / Rafs but one is a Rafferty and the others are just Rafi (Arabic name i think). None of them are Rafael / Raphael

Zephyry · 29/12/2023 19:00

Zephyry · 29/12/2023 19:01
