Ruby or Morgan?

I recently made a thread asking about Morgan for a girl but now we have another choice that is a completely different style. My husband prefers Morgan but I like ruby it seems much more classic, I don't hate Morgan but it does feels slightly trendy/2000s to me. Which name do you prefer?

I am not mad about Ruby but it’s much better than Morgan, which is such an ugly word.

BoleynMemories13 · 29/12/2023 11:54

Ruby is a beautiful name. I'm not a fan of Morgan for either sex. It's just not a nice sounding name imo.

Definitely Ruby out of the two!

ShippingNews · 29/12/2023 11:55

Morgan to me is a boy's name. Ruby all the way.

ChanelNo19EDT · 29/12/2023 11:56

Ruby
I dont like Morgan for a girl.
I like Reuben for a boy though! Or Muireann (Mwirren) for a girl.

Yeah i think it's unisex these days but it did have a faddy moment in the 00s for girls here in the uk according to the ons but it's definitely slightly more popular for boys here in the uk. In America it's been more used for girls than boys in the last 25 years according to websites.

Morgan to me is a boy's name too. Ruby is better.

MalcolmTuckersDisdainfulSneer · 29/12/2023 13:11

Not keen on either (sorry), but definitely prefer Ruby of the too

sleepymama3 · 29/12/2023 13:17

Can't see Morgan without thinking of Piers. Ruby is nice but a tad overused where I live.

Santaisscouringindeedfornewjob · 29/12/2023 13:19

My Ruby is 18 and still loves her name as do I...

theduchessofspork · 29/12/2023 13:42

Ruby I think

I don’t think Morgan really works as a name, even if it is part of the Arthurian stories

blackfluffycat · 29/12/2023 13:48

How about Brogan or Raegan if you like the sound?

I think Morgan is a boys name. I like Ruby.

AdaColeman · 29/12/2023 14:00

Ruby is a gorgeous name!

Morgan reminds me of the car manufacturer.

PickledScrump · 29/12/2023 15:50

Not keen on either but ruby is slightly better.

I would say Ruby became pretty popular from 2010-2020, there’s certainly a lot in my daughters year and below so I think similar issue to Morgan feeling of a certain time.

Of the two sorry

Onelife2024 · 29/12/2023 16:02

I really like Ruby

Not keen on Morgan for a girl

PurpleOrchid42 · 29/12/2023 16:21

I'd go with Ruby.

GladAllOver · 29/12/2023 16:22

I know of a boy Morgan. His friends call him Morg. Would you want that for your daughter?

MerryChristmasToYou · 29/12/2023 16:28

I was at school with a boy Morgan and he was Morg too.

LlynTegid · 29/12/2023 16:29

Ruby

Catsknowbest · 29/12/2023 16:30

Ruby definitely 😊

ShyMaryEllen · 29/12/2023 16:36

Morgan is ok for a boy, but I prefer Morwenna for a girl.

WeeOrcadian · 29/12/2023 16:42

Morgan is a boy's name

Ruby = Kaiser Chiefs

Whataretheodds · 29/12/2023 16:43

Morgana was the woman in the Arthurian legend, I think

MaloneMeadow · 29/12/2023 16:44

Definitely Ruby. Morgan doesn’t have a nice sound to it whatsoever and is more of a boys name to me, always think it’s odd on a girl

LauderSyme · 29/12/2023 16:48

I like Morgan or Morgana for a girl, she would share her name with the powerful enchantress of legend.

I am afraid I have never liked Ruby.
