Lack of ONS data, what names are you seeing at nursery?

Hello,

As the ONS data hasn’t been recently updated for babies born in England and Wales (I think the last data set is 2021?), I’m interested in hearing what names are popular near you - whether you’ve recently had a baby, have a baby or toddler in nursery or pre-school or have friends or family members with babies.

I am based in London and for girls I have met quite a few little Mia’s and Ada’s, Florence’s and Frances’s.

I’m due next year, so a way off needing to pick a name - but always nice to hear what others are choosing.

In my experience it's a lot of quite samey, and what I would consider the cutesy names.

Girls - It seems to be Ella, Etty, Gracie, Lottie, Rosie type names

Boys - Arlo (it's everywhere) Billy, Harley, Freddie, Danny, Ollie etc

Although there also seems to be a smattering of older names. I know a few little ones called, Frank, Wilfred, Vivian and Winifred

Yes I was going to say lots of Mia, Maya’s etc and Eve type names (Evie Eva etc) for girls. Boys Arlo definitely, Teddy ad Arthur

Popularity varies from area to area.

Around me, the following seem to be the ones I hear most often in under 5s:-

@cameliasun Yes - babies born in 2021 data is available, I suppose I’m more interested in anecdotal info that might be more recent (so recent births, under 2s)

We’re in London too. I’ve noticed a lot of ‘O’ names for girls - Ottilie, Olympia, Octavia. Max is everywhere for boys, I think maybe because a lot of families near us are a mix of European nationalities and Max works in so many languages.

Most children I know started nursery around 1 when their parents went back to work. I know lots of children who were born 2022 and 2023, and that data hasn’t been released yet!

OP likely means private nursery where babies can attend.

yes- the ‘may’ sound is popular. I know about 6 Mabels under two and 3 Maeves.

i have also met quite a few Arlos and Otis-es.

I'm in South London and newly 1 year old DS attends with 2 Noah's.

Out and about I'm hearing a lot of Arlo, Ezra, Bertie & Teddy for boys and Luna, Ava, Mia, Betsy & Wren for girls.

YY to Arlo, Theo, Max, and Noah. Still seeing (hearing?) lots of Olivia around us in SE London, and then what I think of as war-chic names - along the lines of Ada, Eva, Betsy.

Boys - Theo, Teddy, Ted - everywhere! Also lots of Arlo, Arthur, Alfie, Freddie, Leo, Hugo.
Girls - Margot, Luna / Lola / Lila type names and Isla, Isabelle / Isabella and all the variations, Sophia (permanently overdone safe choice) also old lady names like Mabel and Elsie.
