We love Theodora but our surname is Rose is it too cutesy?

In my opinion yes - a baby Theodora is very cute but it won’t age well. Too frilly for when she grows up

theduchessofspork · 22/12/2023 22:43

I think it’s fine - the only thing is there are an awful lot of Theodora Roses around, as it’s such a common first and middle name combination

It’s no different from Alexandra or Olivia?

I think the surname is the cutesy part really but what you gonna do. I’d say Theodora is strong, not at all cutesy. I know a family with the surname Rose. Their 2 girls names are along the same lines and work well!

sleepysummers · 22/12/2023 22:54

I love it.

SoOutingWhoCares · 22/12/2023 23:12

Theodora is a good, strong name that's been around for centuries. I don't see it as frilly at all. Options for cute nicknames are there, Teddy, Dora etc. Many older Theodoras go by Theo. Makes me think of the dance teacher, Theo Dane, in Ballet Shoes.

As for Rose, you can't help your surname. It will make lots of girls names sound cutesy...but it's also a really lovely surname.

BrutusMcDogface · 22/12/2023 23:14

I love it! Rose isn’t the middle name (to a pp who said that it’s overused) but the surname. Love it.

SkaneTos · 22/12/2023 23:28

I think Theodora Rose is a beautiful name!
Lucky you to have such a pretty surname.

Oranesandlemons · 22/12/2023 23:44

I love it! I think it’s so cute for a baby but will also age well

@theduchessofspork They’re 3 completely different names?

Marcipex · 23/12/2023 00:45

I like it, but I think it will date her, as there is a current wave of Theodoras. And Something Roses.
It’s still nice though.

I think a lot of people have jumped on the Teddy bandwagon too.

@theduchessofspork They’re 3 completely different names?

Yes, but they are all similar - 4 syllable feminine versions of masculine names. Very few people would say that Olivia or Alexandra was too frilly for an adult, so I don’t see how Theodora can be.

SallyWD · 23/12/2023 09:18

It's not cutesy at all. I think it sounds great.

MerryChristmasToYou · 23/12/2023 10:30

Not frilly but fussy and Theo & Theodore are too common.

I appreciate that Oliver & Alexander are very popular too but Olivia and Alexandra don't seem as faddy

I don't like Theo, Theodore, Theodora or Thea

They’re not similar at all in my mind. Being a feminine version of a masculine name doesn’t bother me in the slightest, that’s not the issue. I just think it’s far too faddy and frilly for when she grows up, I feel the same way with Theodore.

pearsandbear · 23/12/2023 14:13

I don't think it's two cutesy but the double R sound doesn't hit my ear right personally.

Since your last name starts with R I would avoid a first name that ends in a R but that's just my opinion it's a lovely name otherwise!

RuthW · 23/12/2023 14:13

Lovely. Goes really well and a name for a baby and adult.

ORANGEORANGEORANGE · 24/12/2023 00:24

Really nice.

I'm envious of your surname!

DesertSnow · 25/12/2023 20:33

I think its lovely. You have a lovely surname

Spyrothedragonn · 25/12/2023 20:54

I think it sounds beautiful - I think a multisyllabic first name with a short surname is lovely, and I like that Theodora is a feminisation of a masculine name, against a very feminine sounding surname Rose.
