I am so stuck. I have girls' names galore, please give me nice slightly arty boys' names that won't get hugely popular in a year or two

you are on the right track MrsC
but a lot of these are big old ponce names aren't they?

DumbledoresGirl · 17/03/2008 09:34

My vote would be for Rafferty. What a fantastic name! I couldn't use it as I have a slight lisp and deliberately avoided names where the r needed to be heard.

FrannyandZooey · 17/03/2008 09:35

Wafferty is NOT good DG
very wise

OP posts:
DumbledoresGirl · 17/03/2008 09:36

It is not that bad a lisp!

So come on, what do you think of Rafferty?

harpsichordcarrier · 17/03/2008 09:36

good choice DG
my mother had plans to call me Rory
Wowy!
oh the horror

MrsJohnCusack · 17/03/2008 09:37

oh yes
I do specialise in poncey names

DumbledoresGirl · 17/03/2008 09:37

That would come out as War-wy. I hate that name.

Runs away quickly from the thousand mothers of Rorys here present.

FrannyandZooey · 17/03/2008 09:38

I am not taken by Rafferty or Wafferty
sorry

OP posts:
DumbledoresGirl · 17/03/2008 09:43

and

Would it be too much to know what ds1 is called? It might help to choose a name that somehow matches. All my boys have Irish names.

MadameCh0let · 17/03/2008 09:44

I love Rory. but in the USA, they are using for girls. McIrish people. That annoys me so much. I've got into a few major rucks with Americans who want to name their daughters Finley and Rory 'because they are Scottish/Irish". I told them they were bastardising my Celtic culture, and that as American culture was so oppressive they should feel an obligation not to destroy other cultures. They said "yeah but it's so cute on a girl".

So, love Rory, but it's been Disneyed. It's 'gone to the girls'.

MadameCh0let · 17/03/2008 09:45

PS I love Rafferty but that is a tiny bit chav and Raphael is tiny bit poncey, so which to choose?! Have to nail your colours to the mast there. Raff full stop is lovely.

norkmaiden · 17/03/2008 10:00

Hal
Jago
Robin
Morgan

MrsJohnCusack · 17/03/2008 10:12

sidge has already said this, but Rufus
Or what about Rudy? (a couple of people have already siad it)
and Jago is good

barbamama · 17/03/2008 10:14

Have just wasted the last hour of ds2's nap reading this entire thread as I am always up for unusual boys names, even tho not yet pg with ds3. I am astounded at the positive votes for my dhs name - Dominic. When I met him, I almost didn't go out with him becasue I thought his name was so naff. You are all right though, it is about to get very popular I think. Just be aware, he says, that his nickname at school was condom and that if ever he posts on the internet with dom in his name he gets propositioned by people wanting him to whip him. My ds2's name was also mentioned near the beginning for the first time ever on a names thread. amazed!

barbamama · 17/03/2008 10:15

I was going to say Ralf - its growing on me. Why do the yanks insist on girlying the good names?

norkmaiden · 17/03/2008 10:15

Gulliver

Love it

frisbyrat · 17/03/2008 10:27

Bernard.

MadameCh0let · 17/03/2008 10:30

Couldn't love a human Bernard.

But could love a baby Gilbert.
