Any votes on a favourite between Cora or Stella?

Also open to alternatives with a similar vibe!

Cora. Or Coraline/Coral.

Not keen on Stella, associations with the lager and it just feels like a 'heavy' name to me.

BoobyDazzler · 17/12/2023 20:20

I love them both. I wish I’d stuck to my guns and called DD Stella, it’s a beautiful name.

LaPalmaLlama · 17/12/2023 20:23

I like both but vote Stella. Probably depends on your social group but no one I know drinks Stella lager- it’s apparently still the most popular brand in the Uk but god knows how as it never seems to be served anywhere 🤣. In any case I don’t think it would have those connotations amongst their peer group.

Stellas always seem to be quite strong. Cora for some reason reminds me of a Dickensian character who might be about to succumb to TB or similar.

VivaVivaa · 17/12/2023 20:24

Stella is my absolute favourite name! 2 boys here but if either had been a girl it would have been Stella. Having said that, Cora is lovely too and would have been high up our list as well!

Vexxa · 17/12/2023 20:26

Love Stella, but Cora is also nice. Alternatively, Clara feels like a nice mix between the two?

EndofDaze · 17/12/2023 20:27

I’ve got a Stella. Love the name. Got all the Stella Artois jokes over by the end of KS1. Bit of a rough time being a teenager when Interstellar was released. She loves her name. Unusual without being way out.

Sequinne · 17/12/2023 20:28

Prefer Cora.
Stella is ok but I find it quite hard/harsh sounding.

Perhapsanorhertimewouldbebetter · 17/12/2023 20:31

I really don't like Stella as a name, I can pinpoint exactly why though!

I like Cora better.

I also like Sara, pronounced 'Sah-ra' but so many folk assume it's 'Say-ra', sadly.

AdaColeman · 17/12/2023 20:31

Stella by a long way!

Raspberrymoon49 · 17/12/2023 20:34

I think Stella’s a really hard name, Cora is much softer

Nap1983 · 17/12/2023 20:39

Love Cora!
dont mind Stella.

FestiveFrederica · 17/12/2023 20:41

Cora

SallyWD · 17/12/2023 20:41

I love Stella. One of my favourite names. I also love the meaning.
Cora is OK. I used to love it but don't find it very interesting now.

Seamist22 · 17/12/2023 20:43

I prefer Cora

Quinque · 17/12/2023 20:43

Stella, definitely, Estelle or Estella are similar if the lager association worries you.
Coral makes me think of apples- corer! I'm not a fan.

EasternStandard · 17/12/2023 20:45

I prefer Cora

Moveoverdarlin · 17/12/2023 20:46

Love Stella. Dislike Cora. There was a ropey old woman in EastEnders called Cora which puts me off.

Mikki77 · 17/12/2023 20:54

Coral- gorgeous name, also Vivienne Westwood's gd.

Stella - everyone I know with this ne has a resting bitch face

SirenSays · 17/12/2023 20:59

Cora is so much prettier.
I can't hear the name Stella without hearing the awful Streetcar Named Desire yelling.

Awumminnscotland · 17/12/2023 21:01

Lots of Coras around now. I love Stella, a strong classic name.

43ontherocksporfavor · 17/12/2023 21:02

Stella or

Cara /Clara

MissBuffyAnneSummers · 17/12/2023 21:02

Cora

I only hear Marlon Brando screaming 'Stella'

43ontherocksporfavor · 17/12/2023 21:03

@Quinque what about Estrella if beer connection worries you.

Gnomegnomegnome · 17/12/2023 21:25

I don’t like either unless they are short for Estella or Coraline.

Clara is lovely as pp said.

hugohumbug · 17/12/2023 21:44

The name Stella is lovely but it's a beer or a dog so not one I would use despite my love of beers and dogs.

Seconding Estella.

Cora is nicer and I would say less used.
