3 children with my DDs name!

My DD has what I would consider an underused name. It’s well known but not used for many children her age. I’m a bit of a name freak and checked all the stats for the years before her birth and subsequent years after and it is hardly used. Around 150-200 born a year roughly and well above top 200-300 names a year but there’s 3 with her name in a tiny rural nursery. I realise that everyone is looking for less popular/underused names now and people may say it’s obviously not as unusual as I thought but the stats do show it is quite underused so it really strikes me as being crazy that there are 3. Has anyone had similar? Seems like there’s little pockets of popular names in areas maybe.

One of my DC's has a name regularly in the top 10. There were only two including him at his primary and now there's only two at his secondary too! His sibling has a much less popular (according to the lists) name. There were FOUR in his primary year alone (out of 60 kids) Confused

My dd's name raised eyebrows in 1997. A well known name but unheard off in under 80s at that time.

Now it's in the top ten and dd had three in her class recently.

TheaBrandt · 16/12/2023 15:13

Is it Eve or an Eve related name? I worked out one third of the girls in dds class were named a variant of eve. Crazy. And very confusing. It’s a nice enough name but really?!

Maireas · 16/12/2023 15:15

Oh yes, I teach many girls Eve, Evie and Eva. It's as popular as Lily and Izzy where I work.
I've noticed some yr7s called Minnie, Betsey, Dottie and Missey.

Toddlerteaplease · 16/12/2023 15:19

I bet it's Elsie.

StaunchMomma · 16/12/2023 15:25

I've never met anyone with my DS's name.

Moved from a major city to a village - one of the first people I met had a baby Grandson of the name and another started at his Primary a couple of years after him.

Maybe a middle class thing?

I know lots of people who scour posh baby announcements for names - they're all scouring the same names, I guess?

I have one DD with a name that's been in the top ten for decades. She encountered one other in her year in elementary school (450 students) and about a dozen in high school (all years; 3500 students).

I have another DD whose name is very obscure. There was another girl with this name in kindergarten and she met several in high school too.

I chose names I loved and wasn't bothered by popularity. I don't think everyone is trying to be unique when they choose a name, not around here anyway.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 16/12/2023 15:35

Mine were born in 94,97,2001 and I had this with 1 and 3!
For DS1 I had chosen the name years before it existed!
DS2 has actually never met another but it is now popular for both boys and girls
( Rowan)
DS3 is very popular now but his class had 3 Bens, and 2 Theos

CaptainMyCaptain · 16/12/2023 15:39

When I was teaching we once had 5 Ashleys with different spellings in a year group another year there were several variations on Elle/Ellie. One year I had two Noahs in my class and once there were two Conans. It happens.

MysticalMegx · 16/12/2023 15:45

I reckon Betsy. If so there is one at school I work at.
Also know an Elsie and an Edith

IpsyUpsyDaisyDoos · 16/12/2023 15:46

There were 11 in my class of my name at school. It happens. There's now only 2 of us at work in a fairly large company so we've spread out a bit. It won't hurt anyone.

Ecnerual · 16/12/2023 15:47

DS2's name has about 100 babies named it a year, it's 400 and something in the name charts. Sat next to baby with the same name at a baby group yesterday 😂 both us mums were a bit 😯

DD's name has about 30-40 babies named it each year, and more popular in Cornwall whereas we live in Yorkshire. Have been told by a couple of people in our village there's another little girl nearby with the same name.

DS1 has a top 10-20 name I was sure we'd be tripping over others, hasn't happened. We do hear it occasionally but nowhere near as much as expected and there are no others in his two form year group at school.

FantasyFox · 16/12/2023 15:48

My eldest two have popular names now, they don't know any kids their age or older but I work in EYFS and I was definitely ahead of the curve. Youngest has a very unusual old greek name that doesn't seem to be catching on. (It was just a name we'd loved for years)
In my nursery class we have two Rockets out of 12 children. Lots of Margot's, Nell, Grace, Ethan's and Andrews throughout the school.

Perhapsanorhertimewouldbebetter · 16/12/2023 15:48

Well technically you can't call it 'my DDs name' because it doesn't belong to you - in reality so many folk are trying to be unusual and different that some of them will inevitably end up down similar naming paths. 😁

dottiedodah · 16/12/2023 15:49

Its annoying but thats what happens really.A pretty and unusual name, and others obv think so too.sadly no way of safeguarding this name though. I am sure this happens quite often as tastes change though

Sunshineclouds11 · 16/12/2023 15:50

Is it Betsy?

minmooch · 16/12/2023 15:52

Read the thread people. Op has already said what her dd name is.

ShowOfHands · 16/12/2023 15:53

Sunshineclouds11 · 16/12/2023 15:50

Is it Betsy?

It's Audrey

spanieleyes · 16/12/2023 15:53

My son was in a school of around 450 and he was the only one with his name. He then moved to a small school and, in his year group of 4 boys he was one of 3 with the same name!

lavenderlou · 16/12/2023 15:54

My DDs had top 10 names. No other kids on their primary school with same name but there were three called "Luna".

Sunshineclouds11 · 16/12/2023 15:56

😂😂 my bad

Girlontherailreplacementbusservice · 16/12/2023 16:00

My DS's primary class only had one repeated name, there were three of them and it was 70 something in popularity they year they were born. Its just one of those things!

Aydel · 16/12/2023 16:00

DD2 has a friend called Araminta. She is known as “Mince.”

Dahliasrule · 16/12/2023 16:06

DD changed her mind about DGD name at the last minute. Just as well. There was another girl in at the tiny village school DGD ended up going to with the original name choice and the same surname! (Not a relation and not a very common surname either. Small village school, think two year groups in one class).

YYURYYUCICYYUR4ME · 16/12/2023 16:10

Worked in schools and very rare you find a unique name, although spellings vary. I worked in one class in which there were 6 Noah's, male and female!
