Help narrowing down name choices

Hi guys,

I'm due any day now and need some help narrowing down our baby name list. We don't know what we are having. It's our third child. We already have a William and an Ella. If we have middle name ideas I've popped them in brackets. Would love opinions and open to different middle name suggestions too.

Girl choices:
Alice (Evelyn)
Ivy (Beatrice)
Rose (Vivienne)
Ava_

Boy choices:_
Archie (Edward)
Oscar
Edward
Henry

Thanks in advance xx

Girl choices:
Alice (Evelyn) - Love Alice, dislike Evelyn
Ivy (Beatrice) - dislike Ivy
Rose (Vivienne) - not keen on either
Ava_- dislike

Alice Beatrice

Boy choices:_
Archie (Edward) - no
Oscar - ok
Edward - like but Teddy's popular
Henry - ok

Kaamos · 12/12/2023 09:34

I like Rose Vivienne and Edward

CurlewKate · 12/12/2023 09:36

Alice,Rose,Edward,Henry.

Marshmallowtoastie · 12/12/2023 09:40

I think Ava and Ella are too close, also Ava seems less classic to me than your other names
i like Beatrice ivy, Alice Vivienne and Vivienne rose better than the orders you’ve given.
Alice Evelyn doesn’t flow as nicely though they’re both nice names individually

Boys I would go with Henry if you are ok with the royal link or Edward, Oscar is fine too. Archie isn’t as classic as your other names as it’s too trendy at the moment

GIrls: love Alice, Ivy, Rose. Not Ava, there are so so so so many of them. Seriously, my daughter was in a dance show recently and of the 6 of them in her group she was the only one that was not called Ava. I guess it might be a little less popular 6 years on but it is by far the most popular girls name around here.

Boys: Henry or Edward.

commonground · 12/12/2023 09:42

They are all lovely names so hard choice! Because of that I would set an arbitrary framework in which to choose.

Since you already have 2 'l' names I would avoid Alice. Similarly, you already have a name beginning and ending in vowels, so I would avoid Ava or Ivy. That leaves Rose for the girl.

William is quite royal so I would avoid Henry and Edward. Then it's down to preference (mine would be Archie over Oscar, but up to you!).

(Middle names all work well)

Twazique · 12/12/2023 09:44

Matthew Edward
Edward Jasper

Adaline Elizabeth

OopsieeDaisy · 12/12/2023 09:50

Alice and Henry get my votes, both lovely names and go nicely with the others.

AdaColeman · 12/12/2023 10:07

Alice and Vivienne are the ones I like from you list.

Rose and Ava are hugely popular if that is a consideration.

I like Edward from your list. Have you considered Edgar or Edmund as alternatives?
Archie and Oscar are very popular. I think diminutives like Archie are cute when they are little, but often don't transfer very well when they are big strapping adults!

martinisforeveryone · 12/12/2023 10:12

Contrary, I actually like Beatrice Vivienne. For a boy I’d choose Edward because it’s a good name for all ages.

Mumofgirls2017 · 12/12/2023 15:38

Alice or ivy, Edward or henry

Doublebiscuit77 · 12/12/2023 15:58

Rose Beatrice
Ava Beatrice
(I really like Marianne, Penelope and Francesca as middle names too)

Not sure why, but despite knowing some great Alices, I'm not a fan of the name.

I like Oscar, but it is incredibly popular round here. Edward or Henry would be my pick. I like Edmund better than Edward though.

tokesqueen · 12/12/2023 16:25

I only like Edward.
Love Rosa though (but not Rose).
Would personally avoid Ava and Archie. Too many of both.

HuntingoftheSnark · 12/12/2023 16:39

I like all your names but absolutely love Alice and Henry.

User6761 · 12/12/2023 20:51

Rose or Oscar

DesertSnow · 12/12/2023 20:55

Alice goes well with William and Ella as it echoes the 'l'.

Henry I think goes best of your boy list.

TomatoSandwiches · 12/12/2023 20:56

Alice or Henry

theduchessofspork · 12/12/2023 21:24

Alice Evelyn or Oscar Edward

Ava is too similar to Ella so I’d knock that out.

They are all nice names though

mathanxiety · 12/12/2023 21:50

I love Alice Evelyn and Ivy Beatrice.

I like all the boy name choices except Archie.

user1492757084 · 13/12/2023 08:13

My favourites from your ideas ..

Rose Vivienne
and
Henry Archibald
Oscar Edward

William, Ella and Rose or Henry or Oscar.

dontforgetme · 13/12/2023 08:15

I like Ivy and Henry from your lists. I love the name Henry.

NotFastButFurious · 13/12/2023 08:30

Your names are all lovely but William, Ella and Alice is quite a mouthful to say outloud!
I think William, Ella and Beatrice work best if you'd use that as a first name. Beatrice Ivy is cute.

SquigglePigs · 13/12/2023 13:42

Girl choices:
Alice (Evelyn) - I think this is lovely and goes well
Ivy (Beatrice) - this is lovely and works well too
Rose (Vivienne) - this feels a bit different to the others but is nice enough (not keen in Vivienne though)
Ava - I think this works well with William but is too similar to Ella

Boy choices: - I think all your boys names work well with William and Ella. Oscar is pretty popular at the mo, just in case that bothers you.
Archie (Edward)
Oscar
Edward
Henry

Theoldwoman · 13/12/2023 13:59

I love Alice, however it’s too close to Ella imo.
Edward is my favourite boys name.
Edward Jeremy?

Seeing as William and Ella both have the double LL, here’s some suggestions to keep it going …

Tallulah
Lucille
Millicent
Lillian
Callie
Isabelle
Hillary
Danielle

Mitchell
Elliott

Suchardchoccy · 13/12/2023 14:01

I have a Rose so I am biased 😍
We're also thinking about naming our third daughter Ivy!

I'm sorry but there are literally millions of Avas everywhere it's so common
