Which would you pick if you had to choose one of these?

I’d change Beatrix to Beatrice and use that

Gruelle · 11/12/2023 23:32

Cleo is a cat’s name.

Beatrix is surely the cosplay version of a proper name - as suggested above.

nocoolnamesleft · 11/12/2023 23:36

Clio, muse of history.

alrighthen · 11/12/2023 23:42

Like both a lot. Adore Cleo

MaloneMeadow · 11/12/2023 23:50

Agree with PP - Cleo is a cat name to me. Beatrix is nice but Beatrice is absolutely gorgeous, I’d go for that

PorridgeFace · 11/12/2023 23:51

Cleo is lovely

Vexxa · 12/12/2023 00:09

Of those two, definitely Beatrix - but Beatrice is even nicer (I am biased!) 😊

Sandysandwich · 12/12/2023 01:40

Cleo, because it's a really good name, but also because Beatrix never sounds right to me, Beer tricks? BeeYer trix? BeeTrix? BeYearTrix?

fridaynight1 · 12/12/2023 01:44

I'd be choosing between Chloe and Beatrice.

Beatrix is just wrong and Cleo is a cat.

Seamist22 · 12/12/2023 06:53

I like Beatrice, and Bea is a cute nn.
I’m not sure about Cleo - but I think it’s the sort of name that could grow on me if I knew someone called it.
Really love Chloe - it works well for all ages

purpledahlias · 12/12/2023 08:02

Beatrix is the English and German form of the French Beatrice. In the UK I'd definitely use Beatrix! Like Beatrix Potter.

Not a fan of Cleo - it sounds masculine

Gruelle · 12/12/2023 08:56

It is odd, @purpledahlias, how Beatrix has morphed (to my ears, at least) into sounding like a character name, not a real one.

Gruelle · 12/12/2023 08:58

But I’m not a great fan of Chloe - it sounds so wishy-washy.

OctaviaRedQueen · 12/12/2023 09:41

Love both but if I had to choose one it would be Beatrix.

Twazique · 12/12/2023 09:47

As a previous poster said, Clio (Muse of history).

Cleo is short for Cleopatra. A bold choice!

Lifeinlists · 12/12/2023 09:51

Beatrix. Beatrice is ok but Beatrix is more distinguished. Bea isn't.

Cleo just reminds me of a cat so, no.

Pocodaku · 12/12/2023 09:59

Cleo because I just rewatched Agnes Varda’s film Cleo from 5 to 7, and remembered how much I liked it. Actually, please call your DD Agnes after the late, great Varda!

Passingthethyme · 12/12/2023 10:21

Cleo

PickledScrump · 12/12/2023 11:01

Beatrix is absolutely beautiful, would have been a strong contender but our surname begins with B. Oddly I don’t like Beatrice at all, sounds so old and dull.

Cleo I don’t like at all, never thought of it as a cats name but thinking about it now I know of several cats called cleo

Talipesmum · 12/12/2023 11:05

Love Beatrix - I knew one when I was little 40 years ago, always liked the name. Plus names with an X in are great. And I like Bea as a shortening, or I’ve heard “Beattie” which I liked as well.

Cleo is lovely but it feels like a shortened version of the full name and I’d want to use the full name, which I don’t like quite as much.

But both great choices. And def prefer Beatrix to Beatrice.

oldnorsesaga · 12/12/2023 11:49

I prefer Beatrix, but ultimately love Beatrice
I'm not really fan of Cleo, it's too short for me.

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 12/12/2023 13:27

Beatrix or Beatrice. Not sure on Cleo

purpledahlias · 12/12/2023 13:29

Beatrice sounds lovely in French but not nice by English speakers. Beatrix works much better in English!

Cleopatra is lovely but I'm not keen on Cleo.

peaceinourtime · 12/12/2023 14:23

Of the two Beatrix 100 percent, I don’t understand the appeal and attraction of the name Cleo. Cleo’s a car isn’t it?

alrighthen · 12/12/2023 15:35

Interesting to hear of all the negative Cleo connotations. Cleo for me is a talented musician - Cleo Sol or the late Cleo Laine.

And of course an Egyptian Queen.
