Names similar to Katherine?

I have always loved the name Katherine and had it as my number 1 name for our baby. However, today DH has informed me that Katherine is the name of one of his former partners and therefore is obviously not suitable. Any suggestions of similar names?

Catriona, lovely name

I agree that Eleanor has a similar vibe, also Alice, Julia, Christina, Caroline, Susannah or Abigail maybe.

Just go with Katherine. It’s a lovely name. Does it really matter about an ex-girlfriend?

Katherine is lovely. I understand your reservations but it’s a pity not to use a longstanding favourite for that reason.

What about
Katerina
or doubling it up with another name like
Anne-Katherine?

Otherwise, I’d say that names like Caroline, Elisabeth, Susannah, Victoria, Justine or Miranda have a similar feel.

I know this isn’t the point of the thread

but how can you know someone well enough to marry them and have a baby with them but not know the names of their significant exes? I assume it’s someone he lived with / was engaged to and not a girl he snogged behind the bike sheds when he was 15.

Katrina

caringcarer · 11/12/2023 23:38

I'd just spell it with a C Catherine and still have it.

I don't think it is obviously not suitable and if it is the name you love them I would still go for it.

TenderChicken · 12/12/2023 09:18

I had a Caroline and a Katherine in my primary school class, and people mixed up their names ALL the time (despite the fact they looked nothing alike - one was Korean!) So clearly everyone felt those names were very similar!

WaitingForMojo · 12/12/2023 09:22

Those saying go for it, does the OP’s FH not get a say?!

Katherine is my favourite girls name. Other names that I like are Elizabeth, Eleanor, Jennifer, Helen, Zoe and Maria.

Celia24 · 12/12/2023 12:01

I'm Kathleen and have always preferred ir to the harder sounding 'rine'.

Mind you, I go by Kat, so it didn't matter much!

livingroom · 12/12/2023 12:37

Corina

That's my name. I like it. It's not popular/ common, but it's not unusual either. I do get a lot of mis-spelling but that doesn't bother me, I suppose there are just a lot of ways to spell it. I get called Catriona sometimes which is also a lovely name.

peaceinourtime · 12/12/2023 14:26
