Sami

Rayan

Aydin

Nura

Kamila

Aayah

Amila

Deen

do any of them jump out to you as ick, chavvy or younique?

yes they are all Muslims names. I’m Muslim. They are names on my baby name list, we want Muslim names that have nice meanings but aren’t too too common in our community and not too alienating for life in the Uk. The spellings are the closest transliteration to the Arabic

Im not familiar with all of them but I've heard some. I assume some on the list are girls and some are boys names

Like Rayan and Aydin

Comedycook · 11/12/2023 20:07

Sami. V nice and I like the spelling.

Rayan. Nice sound to it

Aydin ok

Nura. Love...my favourite

Kamila. Nice

Aayah I think lots of people may struggle to know whether to pronounce ay ah or i ah if that makes sense

Amila nice enough

Deen. Dean is quite a dated name in the UK now...and I think would have that connotation if used but it is a nice name.

Mollymalone123 · 11/12/2023 20:08

I think Nura and Amila are lovely names

abcdefghijkI · 11/12/2023 20:12

LOVE Nura and Sami!

The only one I don't like as much is Deen, as it seems like Dean but misspelled.

Similarly Kamila sounds like Camilla which to me is a bit of a frumpy name.

CattingAbout · 11/12/2023 20:15

I like all of them except Deen

fourelementary · 11/12/2023 20:15

Sami yes I like this for either tbh

Rayan nope. Too much like Ryan sorry

Aydin same- it’s like Aiden just spelt wrong

Nura- nice I like this

Kamila- hmmm a bit like Camilla and I don’t like HRH

Aayah- Ah-ya? Or Ay-ya? Unsure of whether I like it… sounds like something you’d say when you step on Lego.

Amila- nice

Deen- nope. Dean is dated.

BettyBallerina · 11/12/2023 20:16

They’re all lovely. Soft, kind sounding names.

shoopshoopdedoo · 11/12/2023 20:20

Love Nura and Sami. Not keen on Deen (due to resemblance to Dean!) or Aayah but I like all the others.

See with the I at the end I worry Sami reads a bit chavvy

I loathe the entire royal family but I love the meaning of kamila- it means whole or complete

aayah is neither, in Arabic is a long a sound, I guess like aa- yah most pronounce it eye-a though. Terrible phonics on my part I’m sure

I also don’t love deen spelt deen i do prefer Dean but I also don’t want to white wash Muslim names

It’s the double ee isn’t it… I think I agree!

Nura is my favourite on the list. It's lovely.

MilkChocolateCookie · 11/12/2023 20:23

I'm not keen on Nura, Aayah or Deen but I like that others.

Ohcordelia · 11/12/2023 20:25

Would we pretty aayah spelled Ayah or Aya- i think double vowels here could be the problem.

it means miracle or sign of God’s existence btw in case anyone was wondering

I like Aydin best of your boys names - it’s very familiar as Aiden, but it won’t be hard to explain the spelling

Sami is sweet, and works fine

Rayan is ok. Raymond is being revived a bit I think.

Kamila is my favourite of your girls names. It’s very familiar as Camilla, but again the spelling is pretty easy to explain

Nura is nice too.

Amila is alright - but will slightly blend with the 60 million Amelias

Aayah is a bit awkward to say, and Deen just will sound very dated, so I’d dump those two personally.

purpledahlias · 11/12/2023 20:27

They all work well in the UK and it's nice to reflect your heritage.

would Aayah as Ayah or Aya sway your vote?

i think it’s my favourite 😬😬

Sami - fine
Rayan - fine
Aydin - not sure
Nura - prefer Nur
Kamila - Kameela or Kamilla?
Aayah - no
Amila - Ameela or Amilla? a bit too much like Amina and Amira
Deen - no

Vinrouge4 · 11/12/2023 20:30

Kamila is really pretty for a girl.

Ohcordelia · 11/12/2023 20:30

Would anyone think Aydin is just a really kreative parent?

i saw that tick tock ‘you’ve got a cute baby mam what’s his name’ and Aidan was definitely mentioned as a trendy name spelled kreatively for many folks. I’ve not met any but that worries me a bit

Nur is unisex so I don’t really live that.

Kamila is like the male name kamil but with an a at the end

amila is actually pronounced like Kamila but without the K lol

Nura is lovely

KinS24 · 11/12/2023 20:35

I like all of them. All pleasant and simple and definitely not chavvy!
Aayah is lovely but I think of Ayah as in nursemaid from colonial times. Not sure other people would think the same though.

PieAndLattes · 11/12/2023 20:35

I’m not a fan of Rayan - it’s to similar to all those Jayden/Kayden names that were floating around in the early 2000s, and I’m not too fine of Aayah but I love the rest. I think Amila and Nura are both beautiful.
