How to spell this name?

I love the name Reuben but is it Ruben, Reuben or Rueben? I've seen it spelled several ways but obviously I don't want to pick one that looks 'wrong' if you know what I mean?

TIA

It’s Reuben. Ruben is acceptable (it’s the spelling in some languages) but doesn’t look as nice as Reuben imo. Rueben is just incorrect.

Laffinalltheway · 05/12/2023 15:02

Reuben is the common way to spell it. I've seen Ruben but not Rueben.

WrappersDelight · 05/12/2023 15:04

Reuben is of Hebrew origin
Ruben is a Spanish spelling
Rúben is Portuguese

I have a Ruben (Spanish heritage so it made sense)

Oh, and Rueben. That's strictly for those for whom spelling is not a strong point :-)

MaloneMeadow · 05/12/2023 15:24

For me it’s Reuben, which by far seems to be the most common spelling. Have met a few Rubens as well but just doesn’t feel right!

Katherineryan1986 · 05/12/2023 15:38

I would naturally spell it Reuben
However my friend's grandson is spelled Rueben and that just looks and feels wrong somehow.
However upon Googling it I found that both appear to be acceptable

Spelling R u e b e n is very common in the Netherlands, I know of at least 6 men from there with that name.

What an ignorant comment! Rueben and even Reuven are alternatives of the name. It seems you're not very cultured!

MerryChristmasToYou · 05/12/2023 16:35

Reuben is the usual UK spelling. Ruben and Rubin are alternatives.Babies called Reuben in England & Wales since 1996 (darkgreener.com)

Cas112 · 05/12/2023 16:38

Reuben

monicagellerbing · 05/12/2023 16:41

My friend has just named her baby this and done it as Reubin. It looks horrible imo

MerryChristmasToYou · 05/12/2023 16:56

It definitely doesn't look good

theduchessofspork · 05/12/2023 19:16

Reuben

There are other spellings in other languages, but unless you have a specific heritage this is UK standard (not to mention less annoying for him)

WrappersDelight · 05/12/2023 22:35

Rueben is not a correctly spelt alternative in any language.

MerryChristmasToYou · 05/12/2023 22:51

I agree but it is used, but so is Pheobe.

MargotBamborough · 05/12/2023 22:56

Reuben.

user1492757084 · 06/12/2023 03:25

The most usual and expected spelling is Reuben.

I would go with the most usual spelling of names as a default just as I would go with Phoebe is the most usual and expected spelling.

Theoldwoman · 06/12/2023 12:42

Reuben.

MovingBird123 · 06/12/2023 13:22

Reuben. Re'u = look, ben = a son.

MerryChristmasToYou · 06/12/2023 14:22

Not 'I regret that it's a son' although the number of 'gender regret' threads on here, it wouldn't surprise me

slowsundays · 06/12/2023 14:58

After having all girls, this little boy is wholly welcome in our family. I must admit the name meaning has warmed me to the name as a whole too. On the nose 😂
