Alternative to Rose.....

islasoleil123 · 27/11/2023 19:14

So on my previous post there was a lot of negative feedback about Rose.
Reason for choosing Rose is I absolutely love everything Titanic, film and history. Rose seemed a natural choice.
There was also a wonderful nurse on their called Violet Constance Jessop.
I was thinking of Delilah as first name but also really love Sofia.
Please help me to find a name that reflects my love of the Titanic! Rose? Violet? Or something else?

Rose is lovely. Classy and timeless - I don’t see what’s wrong with it! I’ve only met one little girl with the name and she really suited it

Hotchocolatemousse · 27/11/2023 19:34

Why not Rosa?

mrssunshinexxx · 27/11/2023 19:35

I love Rose x

ElleLeopine · 27/11/2023 19:35

Constance is a beautiful name!

But if you love Rose, and it has so much meaning for you, then use it!

Or Constance Rose?

ElevenSeven · 27/11/2023 19:35

Rosalie

Surgarblossom · 27/11/2023 19:37

Roisin ?

HarrietStyles · 27/11/2023 19:39

If you love Rose call her Rose. And don’t care what anyone else thinks ……. Especially strangers on the internet.

helpmenamemybaby · 27/11/2023 19:39

I went with Rose and haven't regretted it.

Honestly, it's a classic name, don't let people talk you out of the name you love.

If people were trying to talk you out of calling your child Hades or Destinee-Mae then I'd say you should maybe listen, but that's not the case here.

What about Molly after Margaret 'Molly' Brown who survived the Titanic and became known as 'The Unsinkable Molly Brown'?

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Margaret_Brown

helpmenamemybaby · 27/11/2023 19:44

Yes I was about to suggest Molly as well @MarilynBoo. Could be a good alternative.

The last surviving Titanic passenger passed away in 2009 and her name was Millvina Dean, but I'm not gonna lie, I think that is a horrible name so I'd go with Rose or Molly.

Violetparis · 27/11/2023 19:46

There is not a single name available that everyone or even the majority likes so go with Rose if it is special to you.

pecanpie101 · 27/11/2023 19:47

Rose is lovely. Go with what name you like.
Sophia rose is also nice

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 27/11/2023 20:15

Milvina might be a nice idea after the youngest survivor of the Titanic disaster. If that's too much her last name was Dean so maybe Deana.

Doublebiscuit77 · 27/11/2023 20:15

Delilah Rose is absolutely fine. (My preference would be for Sophia Rose.) Rose is indeed ridiculously popular as a middle name, which is why some posters don't like it/think it's an overdone filler name. But it has meaning for you, and it's popular because it's pretty. No-one in real life will say anything bad about it!

KirstenBlest · 27/11/2023 20:20

Call her Rose. It's 'meh' as a middle name

Sconehenge · 27/11/2023 20:22

I love the name Rose and nn Rosie is just soooo cute. Rose Byrne is a fantastic actress. Just call her Rose!

HoHoHoliday · 27/11/2023 20:22

Is it the James Cameron Titanic film that you love, or the actual real Titanic? Rose is a fictional character in that one film. Fine if that's what you love - just checking before suggesting names.

LadyGeorginaSmythe · 27/11/2023 20:25

Rose is a great name and not used often as a first forename usually a middle name. Go with Rose.
I only know one girl called Rose and she is lovely!

AutumnNymph · 27/11/2023 20:30

I absolutely love Rose as a first name. I haven't seen your earlier thread but if you love Rose and it has meaning for you, absolutely go for it. Its timeless, classic, strong and pretty.

Gaggley · 27/11/2023 20:32

Kate (after Kate Winslet)
Rosalind / Rosalie / Rosamund
Titania
Madelaine (Astor, one of the passengers)
I like Violet Constance too.

theduchessofspork · 27/11/2023 20:54

I like Rose!

Violet and Constance are lovely too

Dorothy Gibson and Margaret (Molly) Brown were very characterful survivors - maybe Dorothea?

SM4713 · 27/11/2023 21:03

Rose, Rosa, Rosalind, Rosalia, Fleur, Violet, Violetta, Iris, Daisy, Jasmine.

ShutUpRomeoYouAreSoWeird · 27/11/2023 21:03

A few for your consideration OP ...

Alba-Rose
Bianca-Rose
Clementine-Rose
Gwendolyn-Rose
Manon-Rose
Seraphina-Rose
Tilly/Mathilda-Rose
Viola-Rose

Rhoda (Greek/Latin)
Rhosyn/Roswen (Welsh)
Roisin/Rosaleen (Gaelic)

Rosaline/Rosalind(e)/Rosalinda

And for the record Rose is a beautiful name and I have two beautiful ones in my life!

spidermonkeys · 27/11/2023 21:36

Rose is a beautiful name. I didnt see you other thread, but it's such an inoffensive name, not much to dislike !

Especially as it holds meaning for you.

spidermonkeys · 27/11/2023 21:38

Or go for Belle, after Joseph Bell.

''Chief engineer Joseph Bell, along with his team of lead engineers and electricians, worked furiously to reroute the power to ensure that the lights stayed on throughout the evacuation and reverse-engineered the pumps to slow the speed at which the ship sank.
Bell and the engineers who chose to stay below deck slowed the sinking by as much as an hour and a half, allowing more time to launch lifeboats.''

(I still prefer Rose)
