I’ve just found out that I’m expecting a baby girl (after 2 boys). We have loads of boy names that we agree on but very few girl names that we both like, and none that we both love.

Names we both like include:
Isla
Evelyn
Aerin/Erin
Alexandra
Esther
Flora
Josephine
Cecelia
Ferne
Adeline/Aveline
Florence
Laurel

I love:
Cicely
Celeste
Serena
Viviana
Clara
Flora
Cassia
Marina
Claudine
Yvette
Sylvia/Sylvie
Violet
Coralie/Coraline

He has much more conservative taste and basically likes the names of girls I was at primary school with (Jessica, Chloe, Sarah, Abigail, Charlotte, Catherine).

Any ideas for names that we might both like! I feel like we’ve considered every name in the world and nothing seems right for both of us.

Lydia or Anna?

MaloneMeadow · 27/11/2023 17:28

How about Cecily? Don’t really like Cecelia or Cicely (old woman names to me) but Cecily is gorgeous and not too common, I’ve only ever met 2. From your lists I love Celeste, Clara and Florence

How about:
Isabel
Lara
Beatrice
Elise
Sasha

I think Clara, Esther, Josephine, Adeline, Violet, Florence sort of suit both your styles but maybe I’m wrong.

Maybe the below could work?
Verity
Lilian (Lily)
Olive
Seren
Hazel
Scarlet (Lettie)
Vera
Camille

Love Alexandra- could consider Ally as a NN?

Conservative names that have a bit of a twist that he might go for?

Sara (not pronounced Sarah)
Zoe
Rhiannon
Heidi
Heather

I like Cassia, Celeste and Coraline, Evelyn and Erin from your list. It's a very nice list.

More traditional names with similar meanings could be: Willow, Rowan, Phoebe, Diana, Adriane, Daphne, Eve.

MarthaMayWho · 27/11/2023 23:03

Or Saskia?

Neverpostagain · 27/11/2023 23:04

Just choose Josephine Esther and you're sorted

MarthaMayWho · 27/11/2023 23:04

Or Saskia?

If you're going for Cecilia at least spell it that way and not Cecelia.

Other suggestions: Genevieve Evangeline Lavinia Meredith Cordelia Ophelia ...

Clara is my favourite. I like Flora too.
Eliza
Rosanna
Juliet

DuckDuckGoose23 · 08/12/2023 08:20

Thank you for all your ideas! A lot of them we’d already considered and liked but we already have close friends/family who’ve used them or they’re too similar to the names of our older boys.
At the moment I think Alexandra is the front runner and then DH has agreed to let me choose something more unusual for the middle name!
