Cassian or Caspian?

Hi everyone! First baby name thread in a while as we think we're having a little boy (find out for sure tomorrow).

What do you think of Cassian or Caspian for a little boy? I'm leaning toward Cassian a little more but what do you think?

I prefer Cassian. But, I’ve never known any and currently there are three Caspian’s at my DC’s school. I would probably check where they’re both positioned on the baby name popularity lists and go with the one that’s more common, or they’ll be forever correcting people on their name.

I've not heard of any either. Looks like it's not crazy popular oddly.

Cassian. Caspian is narnia.

I prefer Cassian though I like both. If you are in England and Wales, checking recent popularity isn't so easy. The most recent dataset is 2021 (which has both Cassian and Caspian at similar popularity - 60-700ish babies per year). The 2022 data is delayed for some reason and probably won't be released until March 2024.

They are both to frilly and fussy for me.

SleepingStandingUp · 25/11/2023 18:15

Cassian or Cassius

Same, I’m not a fan either. Ditto Cassius and I don’t like Casper either. So maybe I just don’t like the Cass sound but I suspect they probably all end up end being known as Cass anyway!

I love Caspian

WineAndFireside · 25/11/2023 18:36

I prefer Cassian.

theduchessofspork · 25/11/2023 19:33

I really like Cassian

I don’t mind Caspian but it makes me think of Narnia and the sea

MerryChristmasToYou · 25/11/2023 19:35

Caspian. With Cassian you get the Cashian and Cass-ian issue.
Casimir is cool

WanderingWitches · 25/11/2023 19:35

I prefer Caspian
I quite like Cassius though

SylvieLaufeydottir · 25/11/2023 19:39

I like Cassian better. Cass works well as a shortening.

Baby isn't due until the end of April so hopefully will have time to check popularity. Every other name DH and I have agreed on for 'the list' is very popular so we're reluctant to have him be one of 3 or 4 in his year (think Leo, Noah etc)

Casimir is my favourite “Cas” name (however worth noting that it in some translations means destroyer of peace - elsewhere bringer of peace though).

I prefer Caspian to Cassian because I like the option for the nickname Cap, and because I hear Ian much more strongly on Cassian, and I don’t like that sound much.

wherethewildtbingsgo · 26/11/2023 20:54

What about Cassius? Much better than Cassian IMO. You still get the Cass nickname.
