I really love both names......

Is Jamie Jacob too much? If so, which name would you pick? Jamie or Jacob?

Thank you.

James and Jacob are different forms of the same name. It’s like calling a child Pete Pierre. That might not bother anyone else other than me though.

I also prefer James as a first name instead of Jamie - and I prefer it to Jacob.

Jamie Jacob is far too much of the jay sound. Personally I’d go for James, nickname Jamie

FeedMeSantiago · 20/11/2023 20:37

Was just about to say James and Jacob are different versions of the same name.

Even if they weren't, there's a Jay sound in each name which I think is too much.

James or Jacob are both nice but I'd pick one and have a different middle name.

Agree with pps, James (as opposed to Jamie) and Jacob are both lovely names but not together.

Theoldwoman · 20/11/2023 21:41

Jacob definitely. I know too many girl Jamie’s.

Ywlala92 · 20/11/2023 22:01

Jamie was near the of top of my boys list. Adore it

Catandsquirrel · 20/11/2023 22:15

Yes as above versions of the same name- Jacobean comes from King James. I would pick one

PollyPeep · 20/11/2023 22:17

I really love it! I don't think most people are going to look at it and think they're the same root name.

theduchessofspork · 20/11/2023 22:17

Jacob

But if you do go for Jamie consider calling him James on the birth cert - Jamie is sweet but twee as a first name

user1492757084 · 21/11/2023 04:18

Jacob or James - not together
It would be like calling a girl Katie Katherine.

James could be nick named Jamie or Jim
Jacob could have nick names Jake or Jakey
Choose the name you love the most and then a second name to suit.

junbean · 21/11/2023 04:20

Jamie! It's darling and gender neutral. So cute!

LuluLemony · 21/11/2023 04:28

Jamie is a lovely name but it might be a lot of the J sound paired with Jacob. However people don't often use a middle name so it wouldn't matter too much.
Jamie can be a standalone name. I don't get this MN obsession with having a separate name on the birth certificate.

greekprincess · 21/11/2023 18:02

Thank you everyone.
Name wouldn't be James, would either be Jamie or Jacob. Not a fan of James and dislike a given name on birth certificate and calling different name.
My older child has a first and middle name, we use both names (they are not hyphenated), as our view is why use a name if you not going to actually use it.
It's given me some food for thought and guess it's about deciding which I prefer, right now that's impossible. Loved Jacob for as long as I can remember but recently fell in love with Jamie and Jake. Would love to use both but doesn't look possible.

Catandsquirrel · 06/04/2024 06:44

What about Dimitrios Diego as additional middle names to really show your commitment to the idea?

RuthW · 06/04/2024 07:31

Jamie is awful as a full name.

James is lovely and less common than Jacob.
