Is Benjamin dated now? What are your thoughts on it? I’ve always loved it but second guessing myself!

It’s a nice name, I also like Ben as a shortened name. All the Bens I know are intellects.

ColleenDonaghy · 19/11/2023 21:51

Love it, 3yo DD would have been Benjamin.

christinarossetti19 · 19/11/2023 21:51

It's timeless not dated. I know Bens from pre-school to in their 70s.

It's a lovely name and I've never met a dud Ben.

SingingSands · 19/11/2023 21:54

Agree with the above - weirdly, all the Bens I know are also really intelligent, lovely men/boys! (Ages 14 - 58!)

Multipleexclamationmarks · 19/11/2023 21:56

Love it.
I've also never met a Ben I've not liked.

MovingBird123 · 19/11/2023 21:58

Love it. Top quality name.

catrescuelady · 19/11/2023 22:00

One of the best.

arlequin · 19/11/2023 22:00

Best name

Somewhatchallenging · 19/11/2023 22:02

I like it, but I prefer Benedict.

Raffington55 · 19/11/2023 22:02

Ben is always lovely as the last boy in the family if this might be your last baby boy or just last baby. In France, "le benjamin" is the youngest member of the family - after Jacob's youngest in the Bible.

annieloulou · 19/11/2023 22:25

My son is Benjamin, but known as Ben, he’s 27.
The midwife always called him ‘Benjamin the baby’, always laugh at ‘Neil the baby’ on Gavin and Stacey, as I have quite often referred to him by this over the years 😂

ZinniaB · 19/11/2023 22:34

A little 90s sounding, reflected in darkgreener stats(15th to now 42nd). That said, I think its popularity is much steadier than most as it’s such a classic name, and I think names like Benjamin circle back round much more quickly. Sound-wise I agree it’s beautiful, and I love Benja as a diminutive, as well as Benji.

Daisybuttercup12345 · 19/11/2023 22:44

It's a nice traditional name. I prefer Reuben now though.

naemates · 19/11/2023 22:48

Nothing wrong with it but I know a looooooot of baby benjamins just now

Pthalo · 20/11/2023 00:08

Love it, it’s timeless and Inlike how you can have a toddler Benjy who becomes Ben as he gets older.

Not a fan of Benedict, sounds so formal and severe, like a grumpy lecturer.

ACynicalDad · 20/11/2023 00:11

Was on our shortlist.

MaloneMeadow · 20/11/2023 00:44

I really like Benjamin but would be put off by the fact that 99% of the time it gets shortened to Ben which imo is way too simple and boring

Yourenotthekingofallthegays · 20/11/2023 01:14

I love it. It suits a baby a teenager and a man of any age. It's a classic and not too popular. Again I have never met a Ben that I don't like

CallieQ · 20/11/2023 01:14

Love it ♥️

KirstenBlest · 20/11/2023 11:04

I like it. Ben makes me think of someone quite mild-natured. Benedict seems a bit try-hard, and Reuben a bit wet.
Not keen on Benny or Benji but the full Benjamin is fine.

TadpolesInPool · 20/11/2023 11:06

I love it.

Ben is a strong name too.

Also works well in many languages.

Glamourreader · 20/11/2023 11:06

I love Benjamin ❤️

Roundtable83 · 20/11/2023 16:50

My husband’s name 🥰
Like others have said, you rarely meet a dud Ben. ❤️

justwatchingtelly · 20/11/2023 17:04

I have one. He's ace.

Lambing9 · 20/11/2023 20:38

Thanks all xx
