Still throwing names around...

So we're no closer on settling on a name... but we've kinda come to a compromise name which suits us both...

I just want some opinions as I won't be telling anyone in real life before the baby arrives.

What do you think of the name Reuben Hayes Eaton?

Any opinions welcome, I'd just like to know I'm not naming him something crappy!

Thanks

Reuben Hayes Eaton flows really well but assuming you wouldn't use his middle name on a daily basis, Reuben Eaton is quite hard to say and sort of merges into one sound as they're too similar.

Rhubarbx1 · 16/11/2023 10:31

I knew it! My husband has been stalling on the name because of this exact reason.

I'll have to admit he's right 😪😅

Reuben Eaton is a bit clunky to say (I think it’s having the same stresses on the same syllables in both names), and also, as a Reuben is a well-known sandwich type, it does sound a bit like a description of someone having a snack — ‘Reuben eatin’.

Rhubarbx1 · 16/11/2023 10:39

Thank you. Much appreciated.

I've never heard of a reuben sandwich 😅

Agree Reuben Eaton doesn't flow right...Reuben is a nice name but it does sounds a bit odd with the surname

Riverlee · 16/11/2023 10:43

Rupert instead of Reuben?

Yokaiwatch · 16/11/2023 10:46

Is hayes your surname? If it is you could double barrel it? Reuben Hayes-Eaton?

Rhubarbx1 · 16/11/2023 10:48

I'd like something old testament biblical.

I love jude and jesse but husband isn't on board at all with either name. I'm not keen on Noah, Luke or Adam. We already have an Elias.

It's so tricky!

Eaton is our surname.

Hayes is a middle name that we both like.

Thanks for the suggestion, though xxx

Samuel
Daniel
Caleb
Jonah

Surnames that start with a vowel are tricky to pair with! I think as Eaton starts with an 'ee' sound that rules out names ending in an 'ee' sound (not sure Jesse would work), and you have to be careful with run-on sounds too.

Samuel
Daniel
Lemuel
Caleb
Isaac
Abraham
David
Solomon
Joseph

You could probably get away with names ending in 'uh'
Josiah
Joshua
Isaiah

Oo forgot Gabriel (nn Gabe) and Nathaniel (Nate).

Thank you. Much appreciated.

I've never heard of a reuben sandwich 😅

US origin, but I’ve certainly seen them on sale in London. Cheese, corned beef and sauerkraut on rye. I think they’re grilled, though I’m vegetarian and have never eaten one. Supposedly named after the inventor.

@Doublebiscuit77 ’s list is good, I think? You have to be careful of names ending in vowel sounds.

DuchessOfSausage · 16/11/2023 16:25

Eaton tends to get said as E'un, so I think you need stronger consonants.
If you use a long first name, consider how the short form goes with the surname.

whatisthemime · 16/11/2023 16:43

Jediah (Jed for short)

ReadtheReviews · 16/11/2023 16:49

I love Elias! And Jesse.
Other names I liked that might go with Eaton...

Joseph Eaton
Rex Eaton
Ralph Eaton
Beau Eaton
Alex Eaton

How about Ezra Eaton? I think it sounds lovely
