Max or Charlie??

Hi,
I'm due in 2 weeks and finding it hard to choose a boy's name!
Loved Max from first finding out I was pregnant. Family(esp my parents) not that keen though. Bit put off by the fact that Christina Aguilara and J-Lo have called their babies Max and the not so nice Kerry Katona is going to use the name Max too!!!
Worried it may also be or become over popular.
Like the name Charlie as a second choice but again worried it's now too popular. Also it may be too much like my own name Charlotte which is sometimes abbreviated to Charl or Charlie! Any advice welcomed!!!

I do like Max and I wouldn't let family put you off as once the baby is born, they will love it so much they won't care what it is called.

I am in exactly the same position re Charlie - I want to use it for my yet unconceived baby but my name is also Charlotte and I am worried people will think it is a bit odd - but I do really love the name for a boy.

Sorry not much help there but I definitely prefer Charlie.

I prefer Charlie, it sounds nicer than Max.

stanleysmother · 11/03/2008 08:10

Both great names, both quite popular... depends if that bothers you greatly or not. Don't let family put you off... in fact that would positively encourage me! My family always hated my boys' names until they were born... now they couldn't be called anything else. Have to agree though, most annoying about Kerry Katona..that would DEFINITELY put me off!

branflake81 · 11/03/2008 11:12

Don't know why but not a big fan of abbreviations as real names and would have to go for Charles.

Max is ok. Easy to spell!

crokky · 11/03/2008 11:13

I really like Max

I have a Max and there is only 1 other in his school. It is a really cool name imo. Didn't mind Christina A having it but Kerry K - now I'm However I like all her dd's names so she does have good taste in names I know lots of Charlie's and really like the name as well.

HonoriaGlossop · 11/03/2008 11:22

I don't know a single Charlie and I think it's a lovely name

Though I would give the full name, Charles - I think this is a really gorgeous name

devonsmummy · 11/03/2008 11:41

i love Charlie but couldn't use it as DH's brother is (Charles) Charlie.
DS's middle name is Charles. (also FIL's middle name)
don't know why but always think of Max as a dogs name sorry!!

hoxtonchick · 11/03/2008 11:44

i have a max too - we love it!

bundle · 11/03/2008 11:56

obv hoxty's max is a pretty good role model!

dd1 also has a v lovely max in her class

but we also know a nice Charlie...

casbie · 11/03/2008 12:31

i know a girl called charlie and lots of max's (sorry!).

Psychomum5 · 11/03/2008 12:37

I have a Max too.

well, he is in fact Maxwell, but he is known as Max, and he is the only one in his school.

His brother was almost called Charlie, only DH vetoed it and got called Jacob, which is now so bloody popular there is three alone in his class including him!!!!!! (about 7 total in his year). No Charlies tho.

Why don;t yu wait until baby comes tho, and then choose the one which seems to fit........

3 of mine were named at birth with names not even in the running, and as soon as I held them their names seemed to just 'be there'. sometimes I think that is the best way.....

hoxtonchick · 11/03/2008 13:37

mine is maxwell too psycho . we call him maxi. he thinks -well is one of his middle names .

your dds have ace names bundy!

bluenosesaint · 11/03/2008 14:50

Love Max ...and Charlie is very cute too ...i don't think you can go wrong with either

allegrageller · 11/03/2008 14:53

I have a Max! It's a class name.

I had to call him Maximilian at dh's insistence (in fact dh wanted Maximus, as in the film Gladiator, but settled for Maximilian)

geordiemacminx · 11/03/2008 15:01

I have a Charlie - check out my profile - he totally suits his name -he is the cheekiest wee thing.

Obviously I prefer Charlie to Max but I'm sure once your LO arrives you will know!

micegg · 11/03/2008 17:03

I'd wait and wait and see which suits him better. Personally I prefer Max but Charlie is also nice.

Charl75 · 11/03/2008 17:08

Thanks so much for the advice. I'm rubbish at making the smallest of decisions at the best of times!!!

Think I will keep an open mind as suggested and see what I think when he's born

Prefer Max.

Charles sounds a little pompous and Charlie sounds a little buffoonish

jellies · 11/03/2008 17:31

prefer Charlie unless your sir name is Brown..
Max is my Dogs name.. I like it for my pet! Sorry!

Hulababy · 11/03/2008 17:36

I prefer the name charlie to Max, although would actually put Charles on the birth certificate.

Friend's little baby is called Charlie and it really suits him.
