Hello folks,

Stuck between these two names. 😫

Sara pronounced SAH-RA (not Sarah) or Cara. Which one do you prefer?

Cara.

Itsbecauseiamamumandlovethem · 07/11/2023 21:11

Sara

MaloneMeadow · 07/11/2023 21:17

Cara! Especially if you have Irish relations

Sara is alright but all the Saras I know spend their life correcting the pronunciation. Most people assume it’s the same as Sarah. I like Zara as a close alternative though

How about Lara?

KirstenBlest · 07/11/2023 21:25

Cara. Both are nice but Sara might get Zara/Sarah.

OopsieeDaisy · 07/11/2023 22:02

Love Cara! Not keen on Sara at all.

TM1979 · 07/11/2023 22:11

Cara. I have a Sarah but I don’t like sara. Zara is also lovely if that’s the sound you’re going for.

AllWeWantToDo · 07/11/2023 22:12

Cara

LulooLemon · 07/11/2023 22:14

Cara is lovely

Shinyandnew1 · 07/11/2023 22:15

Cara, though I also like Zara, Tara and Lara.

I struggle with remembering that Sara is sometimes pronounced as Sarah!

coldcallerbaiter · 07/11/2023 22:37

DramaAlpaca · 07/11/2023 23:13

What about Clara No. Cla-ra or Clair-a?

@KirstenBlest There’s no way that anybody in the UK would pronounce it as Clair-a. It’s a very American thing. Clara is a lovely name

KirstenBlest · 07/11/2023 23:41

@MaloneMeadow , you've obviously not studied David Copperfield by Charles Dickens.

There have been threads on here with the OP hoping to use Clara without knowing that the name gets said to rhyme with Lara.

MaloneMeadow · 07/11/2023 23:47

@KirstenBlest the vast majority of the British public is not going to assume it’s clair-a, get a grip. Sincerely, the parent of a Clara!

KirstenBlest · 07/11/2023 23:49

@MaloneMeadow , did you mean to be rude? Hate the name anyway.

Strokethefurrywall · 08/11/2023 00:25

absolutely Cara!

No it's not a an American thing, Clair-a used to be the standard British pronunciation, then the name dropped out of use (replaced by Clare/Claire) and when it came back into fashion over the last decade or so the European pronunciation of 'Clah-ra' was used and became fashionable.

I had an ancient great-aunt Clara (Clair-a),, to rhyme with Sarah, a lot of people did. I prefer the sound overall, softer sound.

KirstenBlest · 08/11/2023 06:53

The Clair-a pronunciation is much nicer.

tokesqueen · 08/11/2023 07:01

Cara.
Also love Zara

KnickerlessParsons · 08/11/2023 07:19

Cara. I also like Mara and Tara.

pinkdelight · 08/11/2023 07:19

Cara. I like Sara too but Cara is cooler.
