For a baby boy born today!
It’s the name the Met Office have given this storm. So what do you think?

Love it. And definitely keep the Irish spelling. People can just learn to spell it properly and not be ignorant. 🙂

PivotPivotmakingmargaritas · 31/10/2023 06:53

Love it … think it’s gorgeous, yes a lot of people may mispronounce it but I’d take the risk it’s lovely

Holidayhell22 · 31/10/2023 19:18

Love it. Keep that spelling too.

SageRosemary · 31/10/2023 19:20

We have a chap in our family with this name, he's lovely and so is the name.

mathanxiety · 31/10/2023 20:12

It would be a bit old mannish in Ireland but it's a lovely name and I'd keep the correct Irish spelling.

crumblingschools · 31/10/2023 20:27

If the storm is as bad as they are saying and there is loss of life, would you still like to use the name?

Eiris · 31/10/2023 21:24

It's such an ordinary name the storm won’t affect it, I don’t think.

It will if he asks why you chose that name. Then tells people.

YourWinter · 31/10/2023 21:30

Yes, love it!

Eiris · 31/10/2023 21:36

Sorry. Reread the weather forecast and it’s looking like it could get vicious. Why do they give them names?

theduchessofspork · 31/10/2023 22:07

I like it.

Born in a storm - it’s a nice story.

Well the OP will obviously just say she liked it. By the time he is old enough to ask, it will be long forgotten,

icewoman · 31/10/2023 22:10

I'd wait and see how the storm pans out first. Remember baby Katrina? I wonder how she feels about her name now. She must be an adult

Biasquia · 31/10/2023 22:11

I haven’t heard it pronounced correctly yet on the BBC so maybe consider that.

The name is keer awn not Kieran which is the anglicised version.

andyourpointiswhat · 31/10/2023 22:14

Gorgeous name but expect people to regularly omit the fada.

Lochness1975 · 31/10/2023 22:16

Nice is pronounced correctly!

Eiris · 31/10/2023 22:26

Fadas are over rated.

Fadas are over rated.

Fadas are vital to pronunciation.

Do you want a Ciarán or a Kieran in your clann?

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 31/10/2023 23:01

We have a young Ciarán in our family and he's gorgeous. He's also very excited a storm has been named after him

LulooLemon · 31/10/2023 23:11

Lovely name

UsingChangeofName · 31/10/2023 23:34

Are you living in Ireland ?

If not, I'd think on, as it will be be mispronounced continually, which, presuming you've chosen it this way rather than the other, similar and yet so very different name, I'm presuming you wouldn't want?

uncomfortablydumb53 · 31/10/2023 23:34

I love it

determinedtomakethiswork · 31/10/2023 23:38

Congratulations on your new baby. I hope the birth went well. Ciaran is a beautiful name. Sorry, can't do the accent on here.

such a stupid thing to say.

like saying the letter P is overrated.

Eiris · 01/11/2023 17:11

But p is great! Come to think of it Piran is a great name, and Perranzabuloe is fab. Went surfing there one summer.
