The thread about quince trees reminded me of this name. I think it’s beautiful and I like the different meanings (unless there’s one I haven’t heard of?)

I’m unlikely to ever have another baby BTW just curious what everyone thinks.

reminds me of the Muse song Knights of Cydonia. I like Muse but wouldn’t use for a child. I didn’t know Cydonia was a tree??

NoraLuka · 28/10/2023 18:22

It’s a tree, an area on Mars and an ancient city in Crete. I briefly considered it for DD1 but ExH wasn’t having it 😁

This! I’ve only ever heard it in the Muse song. I don’t think it’s particularly nice name either tbh.

It sounds a bit like a medical condition....

Or the treatment for a medical condition.

Daisybuttercup12345 · 28/10/2023 21:53

Thought of cyanide.

StillWantingADog · 28/10/2023 21:54

muse song was my first thought

great song. Wouldn’t use it for a name!

Lizzyinatizzy · 28/10/2023 21:55

Sounds like an anti fungal

MaloneMeadow · 28/10/2023 22:08

Sounds like an STD!

This is what I thought. Not a nice name.

NoraLuka · 28/10/2023 22:43

Oh well looks like exH was right to veto it then!

He may have had faults, but he was right about this

Made me think of cidona - not sure if you can get it in the UK, I loved it growing up in Ireland. It's a fizzy apple drink, stronger taste than appletizer.

Snowdropcow · 28/10/2023 23:37

I’m normally a fan of unusual names but even this is a no from me. It just doesn’t feel pleasant to see or say.

groovergirl · 28/10/2023 23:48

PPs are right, it sounds medical or chemical, but I do sort of like it. Makes me think of the amazing dancer Cyd Charisse.

There is a French name, Sidonie, with a similar sound.

MrsSkylerWhite · 29/10/2023 00:26

Sounds like a mountain or a PlayStation game, not a child.

MajorBarbara · 29/10/2023 00:28

I know more than one Sidonia, which I think may be the 'normal' spelling.

The French name Sidonie comes from Sidonia, the feminine form of a saint's name, Sidonius (an Irish-born monk who lived in France).

Seems to have been popular around the 15th to 16th centuries on the Continent. Sidonie has come back into fashion in France since 2000-ish.

Safxxx · 29/10/2023 08:14

It's giving me Snowdonia vibes

user1492757084 · 30/10/2023 02:44

I prefer Sidonie and Cedella.

peaceinourtime · 30/10/2023 12:46

It looks like cylinder at first glance
