Is this too weird a baby name?! Really like it for a girl but don’t want something too unfamiliar to people’s ears

I think it's nice but I would use it as a nickname for June or Juniper as it sounds kind of cutesy and babyish by itself!

Rt23 · 21/10/2023 20:48

Thank you, this is my worry! I much prefer the sound/vibe of Junie to June but Juniper could work. Juno would be another option but wondering if it is a bit in the pet territory

My first thought was that it sounds like Juni. If you google that it is a drink, a bank and in my world a very popular chair for children with disabilities.

salamithumbs · 21/10/2023 20:54

I've met a little girl called Juno and it really suited her! She'd be around 8 now

Jewelspun · 21/10/2023 21:12

Not keen on Junie.

Juno is lovely.

Jolie is lovely and has a similar sound to Junie.

UsefulSmartPrettyHappy · 21/10/2023 21:23

I like it. It makes me think of The Rattletrap Car by Phyllis Root.

mumtotwox · 21/10/2023 21:23

Reminds me of the little boy in Spy Kids

toastofthetown · 21/10/2023 21:27

Junie feels too nicknamey to my tastes, but it does fit in with Millie, Rosie Tillie Maisie, Ellie etc. and she could easily go by June if she wanted.

Juno is not too far in pet territory for me. My favourite Jun- name is Junia, but in my non-rhotic accent it sounds like junior.

BoleynMemories13 · 21/10/2023 21:28

Juniper, June or Juno.

Junie is nickname only territory and would be far too cutesy as a given name. No grown adult woman will want to be called Junie.

Horriblewoman · 21/10/2023 21:30

What about Joni?

theduchessofspork · 21/10/2023 21:32

Juno is less pet territory than Juniper IMO, the only Junipers I know are small dogs.

Juno and June are both nice.

You can’t just call her Junie though, it’s too hillbilly

IDidntKnowMyOwnStrength · 21/10/2023 21:32

Sounds too similar to Julie.

N4ish · 21/10/2023 21:37

I love it! Have you heard the Bob Dylan version of the song ‘Froggy went a courting’? It mentions a Junie bug and that’s the first thing I thought of when I saw this thread.

Daisybuttercup12345 · 21/10/2023 21:59

I love Junie ❤️

MrsMop1964 · 21/10/2023 22:06

Is it after the book series Junie B Jones? Anyway I have a similar name and don't like it. June is a middle aged name to my ears, but of the names mentioned Juno would be my preference The only person with that name I can think of is Juno Dawson

shoopshoopdedoo · 21/10/2023 22:52

I really like Junie, but dislike Juniper. I think I’d use June if I wanted Junie as a nickname.

Also love Jean / Jeanie and Joan / Joanie.

Snowdropcow · 21/10/2023 22:55

It’s adorable!! I’m a big fan of similar names like Joanie, Jolie and Jovie. Unfortunately they would sound like a Balamory character with my surname so that type of name is unusable for me :(.

I’d love to meet someone called Junie. It just has such a happy, carefree vibe to me.

Snowdropcow · 21/10/2023 22:58

If you like just Junie, go for Junie. The world has changed. Many of her peers will have ‘cutesy’ names, as well as more unusual names. So it really won’t feel unusual considering she will grow up with multiple Evie’s, Elsie’s, Gracie’s and Maisie’s.

SkaneTos · 21/10/2023 22:59

Junie is a lovely name!

Sounds too similar to Julie.

∆ This.
How about Julia or Juliette as the BC name and the nickname can be anything you like.

But she likes Junie not Julia.

oldnorsesaga · 22/10/2023 06:33

I personally prefer Junia to Junie, Juni, Juniper, June and Juno, but Junie and June are nice as well.

Oldthyme · 22/10/2023 06:35

It’s a sweet name. But …

Our family dog is called Juni. (Short for Juniper which is a bit of a mouthful.)
