Middle name for Clara

Hi,
My husband and I are expecting our first child, and have decided on Clara for a girl. However, we are struggling on a middle name. We really like Lydia, but I am worried people would think Clara Lydia sounds a bit like chlamydia. Is this a legitimate worry or should we go with it anyway? I've seen other people saying middle names don't matter that much.

Others we've considered but don't like as much as Lydia are:

Clara Alana
Clara Frances
Clara Francesca
Clara Isla

We like Julia and Lucia as middle names too but they are close family names we'd rather not use. Husband has vetoed 'Grace' and any names which are nouns e.g. flower/place names!

Thoughts gratefully appreciated

Clara is lovely. I agree with you that you should avoid Lydia... Louisa/ Louise have a similar ring without being too chlamydia sounding.

I'm not a big fan of your other suggestions either. I think something like these would suit nicely (obviously without knowing how your last name would sound with it):

Clara Jade/ Jane
Clara May
Clara Beth

Two "a" endings make it a bit of a mouthful. For that reason I like Clara Frances best of your options. Try other names with not "a" but a different ending (and save Lydia for dd2!)

Clara Sylvie
Clara Margaret
Clara Jane
Clara Florence
Clara Adelaide

The middle name options you have are nice but don’t flow that well imo, but it depends if that matters to you or not.

clara violet
clara pearl
clara mabel
clara juliet
Clara maeve
clara sophie
clara harriet
clara vivienne
clara phoebe
clara joy
clara penelope
clara felicity
clara melody

Not Lydia and not anything ending in A.

I like Clara Frances

Morewineplease10 · 20/10/2023 08:16

Its definitely too much like chlamydia!

Clara Grace is lovely as is Clara Maeve as suggested above.

Clara Alana doesn't make for a good combination.

Clara Francesca is lovely or how about Clara Isobel

chunkyhunkyalmond · 20/10/2023 08:23

I wouldn't worry about the flow too much, muddle names are only used on forms etc just use a name you like

junebirthdaygirl · 20/10/2023 08:25

My first thought was Clara Jane and see its been suggested twice. Or use a family name..grandma..

Yes I agree, and I like Clara Frances

Clara Beatrice
Clara Elsbeth
Clara Juliet
Clara Emily
Clara Abigail
Clara Elizabeth

But you like two A endings then I’d go for 4 syllables as that’s the best rhythm

Clara Antonia
Clara Cecilia

Clara Rose is nice!

Too heavy on the r sound; 'ruh ruh' in the middle plus absolutely overused as a middle name.

OopsieeDaisy · 20/10/2023 09:07

I would avoid Clara Lydia for the chlamydia reason and also the repeated ‘l’ sound. Of your options, Clara Frances definitely flows the best.

NotFastButFurious · 20/10/2023 09:44

I think Clara Alana and Clara Isla are too many l's and a's in one mouthful! Frances and Francesca work better but they're not names I'd personally choose but if you like them that's all that matters.

Novicemother · 20/10/2023 13:48

Thanks so much for all the advice! Will definitely steer clear of Lydia, Isla and Alana, and consider the new suggestions, as well as others not ending in 'a'. Hopefully something will feel as right as Clara does soon!

I do think Clara Lydia has bad flow, but it would be lovely sibling set - Clara and Lydia - with different middles
I like Clara Frances - this flows the best
other ideas
Clara Beatrice
Clara Winifred
Clara Mary
Clara Josephine
Clara Louise
