Hi ladies,

looking for some advice on what to do. My little girl is now 4 months. The name we were going to name her some friends chose a couple of months before she was born so we couldn’t name her our chosen name. We then went with the name Lola. It was the only name we could both agree that we liked. I wasn’t in love with the name straight away but I thought it would grow on me. The name hasn’t really grown on me. When she was a few weeks old I saw the name Lottie, something just clicked and I absolutely loved the name. I spoke to my partner about changing the name at this point, he loved Lottie too but wasn’t keen to change it as he had already registered her and said you can’t just change a babies name. I’ve been really unsettled since with her name, it’s been getting me down. I’ve kept mentioning I still want to change it but my partner isn’t having it. We are now 4 months on. I have been struggling with post natal depression which isn’t helping how I feel. Any advice on what to do for the best?

thank you

You can change it quite easily before they’re one.

Personally I much prefer Lottie x

Do you think she’s too old to change it now without people thinking we’re crazy? X

If a friend/family member announced they were changing the name of their 4 month old I wouldn't think they were crazy. I would just presume they had changed their mind and wouldn't think about it again to be honest. Fwiw I prefer Lottie too. But it's what you and your partner like that's the important thing.

HeadAgainstWall0923 · 10/10/2023 16:21

Definitely change it!!

To do it at four months of age is absolutely fine and Lottie is a really beautiful name ❤️

rentreenothanks · 10/10/2023 16:21

I think it's fine to change it! She's only 4 months.

Blackcoffee1 · 10/10/2023 16:23

Why don’t you change her name to Charlotte Lola, call her Lottie. Then you can tell people you simply swapped Lola to a middle name.

Blackcoffee1 · 10/10/2023 16:24

You could even lie to some people and say Charlotte/Lottie was her middle name, Lola was her first name, and you’ve simply swapped them.

Thank you. I also have a 3 year old so just hoping if we changed it she would be able to adjust to the change!

She’s tiny! She doesn’t know her name

It’s fine to change it - lots of people do, and it’s easy up to a year.

Personally I’d go for Charlotte nn Lottie, so she also has a more grown up option - but Lottie is sweet and I much prefer it to Lola

FayCarew · 10/10/2023 20:15

Of course you can change your baby's name, up to 12 months old. There are plenty of threads on here about doing it.
FWIW I prefer Lottie to Lola and would probably put Charlotte on the BC.

peaceinourtime · 11/10/2023 10:19

Charge it to Lottie, it’s a lovely name. Don’t feel like you have to go the whole Charlotte to use it. Plenty of people just have a shortened form of a longer name. Nb I don’t understand the appeal of Lola yes it’s a cute name for a child but really.

thefarrierswife · 11/10/2023 11:54

Change it! Baby is so young yet, toddler just explain we're going to call her Lottie now, they will soon pick it up and probably not even remember you changing it as they grow up.
It's not that uncommon it change at that age.

If you like Lottie not Charlotte just go for Lottie, it's pretty much a name in it's own right nowadays.

Personally I much prefer Lottie and think it works for all ages whilst Lola feels cute on a little one but not sure I'd want to be adult Lola.

Thank you for all your replies. Has made me feel much better.

was thinking about putting Lola into the middle name so Lottie Lola? or do you think it sounds like a bit of a mouthful?

thanks ladies

All of your suggestions are acceptable and lovely ..

Change to ..
Lottie Current second name
Lola Charlotte - call her Lottie
Charlotte Lola - call her Lottie
Lottie Lola Current second name
Charlotte Lola Current second name

Your choice but you won't regret it.

FayCarew · 12/10/2023 09:16

It's a mouthful, but it's an option. You could have something like Charlotte/Lottie Lara on the BC to get the Lo La reference.
