I love the name Cassia Fawn for a girl and wanted to know thoughts, mainly on Cassia as my husband probably won’t let me have Fawn in the name.

Are you going to pronounce it Cass-ee-uh or Cash-uh?

If the latter, she’ll be correcting people all the time.

It’s pronounced Cass-EE-uh

It’s very musical and elegant I think

Is Cordelia a good sister name for Ophelia?
I know they both sound v similar with the ‘elia’ part of the name which some may dislike but is actually why I like it as a sister name..plus ofc the Shakespeare link in both which doesn’t bother me.
My daughter gets her nickname Effie mostly so I thought Cordy could be a cute nickname with Effie - Ophelia and Cordelia
Effie and Cordy.
I don’t want thoughts on my daughter’s name so you can save yourself the bother on that one, we love it.

I think Cordelia is too similar to Ophelia. For a Shakespearan link, how about Nerissa (Riss)?

Oneofeach90 · 08/10/2023 09:47

I don’t want it to sound Shakespearen but if people make that link I don’t mind

Oneofeach90 · 08/10/2023 09:48

I also like how they sound similar

i quite like both names but think you are a bit mad - setting yourself up for a family life of confusion mishearing names… unless you only use their nicknames!

Incognito2023 · 08/10/2023 10:25

Or as you obviously like more unusual names - Cassiopeia as suggested upthread

Then it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. (I imagine most people will think they are too similar)

JayAlfredPrufrock · 08/10/2023 12:38

Rosalind?

Thebigblueballoon · 08/10/2023 12:40

The first thing that popped into my head was a keyboard, to be honest.

Supermam · 08/10/2023 12:42

Ok as long as you don’t mind the association with Cassia bark. Fawn is awful, sorry - baby deer or beige!

MerryChristmasToYou · 07/10/2023 20:31

It's ok but it makes me think of cassia bark. Cassie short for Cassandra is better IMO.

Same, makes me think of cassia bark too.

I know a Cassia, I dislike the name though. Cassie would be better imo!

Cordelia is nice (Ophelia is lovely), bit samey though. Not a fan of Cordy as a non though, sounds a bit like Gordy...

I love Cosette (if you want a writer's link, not necessarily Shakespeare) or Coralie.

SophiaElise · 08/10/2023 13:04

I like Cassia and Cassie. Fawn is an ugly name.

Not a huge fan of Cordelia (or Cordy)

BedtimeCuppa · 08/10/2023 13:09

I love the name Cassia. I have to - it’s my daughter’s haha. I think it is beautiful and yes it’s more unusual but it’s not weird at all. Also - nobody has ever had a problem spelling it or pronouncing it.

Awful name, people are not telling you the truth if they are saying it is nice. People will think of Cassius Clay when they hear that name!

Tbh as he was one of the greatest sportspeople of all time and a man with a strong moral code who’s inspired millions I don’t see the problem here?

MerryChristmasToYou · 08/10/2023 13:15

I always thought it was CASS-ee-ah, like the spice, so I would have mispronounced it.

MartyFunkhouser · 08/10/2023 13:19

Fawn is beyond awful.

Cassia is ok.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 08/10/2023 17:03

It's a plant used as a laxative.

lulalulalula · 09/10/2023 13:00

It's a plant genus and if you search you'll see there are some very pretty flowering trees within this genus. It's a lovely name but as it's more unusual it tends to bring out these connotations on here that it's a laxative or bark but there is much more to it than that. It has a pleasant sound to it but I think you could probably pair it with a better middle name.

Isn't it a variety of cinnamon?

Is it? I didn't know that.

MrsDanversChickenSandwich · 09/10/2023 15:15

I think of cinnamon.

I much prefer Kasia, but that might be a bit unusual on a girl without any Polish heritage.

Longdarkcloud · 09/10/2023 21:02

How about Cressida?
Miranda
Juliet
Aphra goes well with Ophelia
I love the old English form of Cressida which is Chriseyde (Chris - Aid)
