Is this name coming back? I’ve seen it suggested in a few threads.

It’s my darling nan’s name so would love to know if anyone knows of any little Joans?

I know an 8 year old Joan. It's a nice name.

bluedomino · 02/10/2023 22:23

I love it. Don't know why as I dislike Joanne.

cherryassam · 02/10/2023 22:25

I think it’s of a similar vibe to many names that are being used at the moment

And I think Joanie / Joni is such a great nickname / diminutive

SallyWD · 02/10/2023 22:30

I like it. I know a Joanie. I also like Jane

Enko · 02/10/2023 22:37

I don't like it at all I find it very harsh to say.

My sister is Joan and I know a lovely 90-year-old Joan but nope I don't like the name.

Divebar2021 · 02/10/2023 22:42

Oh I like a Joan - it makes me think of Mad Men. ( see below ) I also like Joanie for a baby / toddler.

It was my grandmother's name and is my daughter's middle name- I love it.

ShellySarah · 02/10/2023 22:44

Sounds like moan

Ketzele · 02/10/2023 22:45

Love it!

BettyBoobles · 02/10/2023 22:46

Joni is lovely. Joan, not so lovely. Sorry!

KathrynWheel · 02/10/2023 22:47

My Mum was named Joan. It was the most popular name for a girl in 1926, the year she was born. I like it.

Daisybuttercup12345 · 02/10/2023 23:23

I'm not keen on Joan, yet I like Joanne, Joanna, Jayne and June.

sunshineandshowers40 · 02/10/2023 23:24

I love Joanie

theduchessofspork · 02/10/2023 23:43

I know of some little Joanies - I guess they are Joan.

It always reminds me of Moan so I wouldn’t as a first name

That was a hurricane in the late 1980s that killed over 200 people

Marmighty · 03/10/2023 03:47

Yes I know a little Joan and also a Jean

Mothership4two · 03/10/2023 03:49

No little Joans but an elderly one who has always hated her name!

user1492757084 · 03/10/2023 04:04

I like it - I also love many actual Joans.

GodDammitCecil · 03/10/2023 04:13

Yes, I firmly believe names like this are just around the corner.

People are over the Milly, Tilly, Mila, Mia, Evie, Eva, Ava names and wanting something different sounding.

Joan is super fresh to the next generation. While all of us 40 and up aren’t ready for it, just like our parents didn’t like the names we went for (I use ‘we’ very generically).

mathanxiety · 03/10/2023 04:29

I know one who is 6. She fits in really well with all the Ediths and Hazels.

cariadlet · 03/10/2023 05:05

The only Joan I know is my aunty who is in her 80s.
I tend to forget that it's her name because she has always hated it and has always been known as Jo.

FayCarew · 03/10/2023 05:13

Joan Collins.

Gratedpotato · 03/10/2023 06:38

I know one Joan who is not elderly, she is 14 and has been going by Josie since she was 6, she still gets embarrrassed if anyone calls her Joan.

shoopshoopdedoo · 03/10/2023 06:51

I love it. Also Jean/Jeanie.
