Help us choose a baby girls name as husband and I can't decide! Love classic, elegant names:
Phoebe
Olive
Aria
Edie

I like all of these, Olive is my favourite.

smallshinybutton · 01/10/2023 08:36

Phoebe and Aria are quite "in" names at the moment where I am.

I like Edie

I wouldn't describe Edie as classic though but I love it. Do you like Erin?

Scottyme · 01/10/2023 08:37

I really like your names, but don't think any of them are particularly elegant, especially Aria, if that's what your going for. I'd also personally use Edith or Eden with nn Edie.

NuffSaidSam · 01/10/2023 08:40

Phoebe is by far the nicest imo.

I'm not sure Olive, Aria or Edie could be described as classic or elegant!

thiswasabadone · 01/10/2023 08:43

Actually love them all
Edie is possibly the least used at the moment

wellingtonsandwaffles · 01/10/2023 08:47

So you like 2 syllables, pretty sounding, vowel heavy, it seems

phoebe is nice

3 syllables but… Elodie?

or

Josie (Josephine)
Rosie (Rosanna)
Esme (can be pronounced May or Me at the end)
Iris
Ivy
Lydia

BreatheAndFocus · 01/10/2023 08:56

Olive or Edie are my favourites of those. I really don’t like Phoebe. Aria is very common at the moment.

How about:

Edith
Lucia
Anna
Emily
Charlotte
Inez
Rachael
Maeve

PortalooSunset · 01/10/2023 08:58

Girl here would have been called Dorothy (nn Dolly). Think dh secretly glad we did not have girls!

From your list I prefer Edie, but I'd give her a longer name on the birth certificate as Edie sounds like a nickname to me (Edith, Edina, Eden).

MerryChristmasToYou · 01/10/2023 10:52

Phoebe - ok
Olive - not keen, Olivia is much nicer
Aria - completely nothingy
Edie - ok but a bit too close to Evie

user1492757084 · 01/10/2023 10:58

Think elegant, classic ..
Olivia
Edwina
Phoebe
Charlotte
Camille
Arabella
Elizabeth
Ellen
Leonor

airfresh123 · 01/10/2023 11:01

Olive is lovely.

beatrice89 · 01/10/2023 11:03

Olive

That's our daughters middle name and so beautiful x

LadyWithLapdog · 01/10/2023 11:04

All nice. I prefer Phoebe. I’d also go for Olivia rather than Olive.

PickledScrump · 01/10/2023 13:29

Edie and Aria have had a major surge in the last 10 or so years, they are already starting to feel dated, wouldn’t say they are classic or elegant. Olive seems to be having a sharp rise. Phoebe is the best from your list.

Mumofgirls2017 · 01/10/2023 13:37

Olive or Edie (I like as short for Edith!)

BoleynMemories13 · 01/10/2023 20:42

Aria is very modern, seems the total opposite of classic.

I do quite like Edie as a nickname but would call her Edith on the birth certificate to give her more options when she's older. I actually prefer Eden, but not sure that fits the classic criteria.

I find Olive quite harsh. Much prefer Olivia.

That leaves Phoebe, which is lovely.

theduchessofspork · 01/10/2023 23:24

I wouldn’t describe any of these as elegant

Phoebe is a classic and popular
Edie would be if you used Edith as a first name - it’s v v popular though
They are both nice.

Aria and Olive couldn’t be called classic really. Aria is quite in right now and Olive is on the rise. I don’t really like either.

miniaturepixieonacid · 02/10/2023 16:38

Aria is my favourite. I love it.
I also like Edie (though would use Edith on bc) and Phoebe.

I really don't like Olive.

KayEmAy · 02/10/2023 16:56

Personal order of preference:

  1. Olive
  2. Aria
  3. Phoebe

While I ADORE those three, Edie just isn't my favorite (which is a little weird since I also love Eden)

Other ideas I think vibe with this list -

Celeste
Madeleine
Juliet
Daisy
Blair
Tess(a)
Kiara
Thea
Elena
Cassidy
Josie/Josette
Leia
Sarah
Rosalie
Abigail
Gemma
Alix
Felicity
Meg
Bailey

peaceinourtime · 03/10/2023 09:37

Olive, Edie or Phoebe, not Aria.

Gnomegnomegnome · 03/10/2023 09:42

I love Edie and Olive.

DangerousAlchemy · 03/10/2023 13:54

My neighbours daughter is Audrey. Love it so much! V classy. Henrietta? (Hetty). Margot?

Mamabear487 · 03/10/2023 14:10

LOVE Olive. I wanted it for my girl but OH said no 😭

Ilovesmesomefriedchicken · 03/10/2023 19:08

It's difficult deciding on a name, I had a list of around 6 names that I loved.
Then waited until a few days after she was born to make the decision.
I love all of the names you listed, especially Olive & Phoebe!
I also adore the names Rosa/Rose/Rosie, Lucille/Lucy, Lilah, Lillia, Charlotte and Camile ❤️

saffy2 · 03/10/2023 19:17

My daughter is Olive and I love it. It’s definitely rising in popularity but we don’t come across any, and I like that. Which is the reason why i chose it over Olivia for those suggesting Olivia. I know about 20 Olivia’s and I don’t like that personally.
