What does everyone think of this biblical name for a girl? Tia

Catlover1705 · 28/09/2023 08:33

Quite pretty and unusual, could be pronounced a few ways though.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 28/09/2023 09:05

If you are familiar with its biblical origin you will know that it is a boys' name.

timoteigirl · 28/09/2023 09:18

I would have thought this to be a boy's name like Jeremiah, not a girl's name. But I like the meaning. What about the name Nerissa for girls. Easy to pronounce. Or Nerisha?

miniaturepixieonacid · 28/09/2023 09:44

I have taught one girl called Neriah. She will be 17 now. Never met another one, male or female.

It's pretty. I didn't actually know it was in the Bible.

GEK1983 · 28/09/2023 11:40

I believe it is gender neutral?

It's a nice name, definitely religious-sounding so I would assume from a religious family.

I assumed it was male as well, but it's actually not a name I've heard before, so I didn't know.

nutellacrepe · 28/09/2023 11:46

I also wouldn't know whether to pronounce it 'NEE-ree-ah' or 'nuh-RAI-ah'

I think both sound nice but you/ your child would be constantly telling people how to pronounce it, so depends how you feel about that.

Thebigblueballoon · 28/09/2023 11:47

Personally it reminds me a bit of the name Nevaeh, which I’m not a fan of.

Personally it reminds me a bit of the name Nevaeh, which I’m not a fan of.

I looked to see if it spelt something backwards as it reminded me of nevaeh

AreolaGrande · 28/09/2023 11:57

Even though Google tells me it's a male name from the bible, it gives me the same vibes as Nevaeh and those vibes aren't good ones.

GEK1983 · 28/09/2023 11:40

I believe it is gender neutral?

The girls' equivalent is usually spelt Neriya(h).

GEK1983 · 28/09/2023 13:06

People thinking it sounds like Nevaeh has put me off 🤣

peaceinourtime · 28/09/2023 13:09

I wasn’t familiar with that name. It’s interesting with its origins and meaning, being a biblical name and all .

Why don't you name your boy Nessa and call it gender neutral then?

Me three! Avoid for the nevaeh connotations for sure.
Bethany is also biblical!

Oldthyme · 28/09/2023 14:22

I love it. 💜
Go for it.

watcherintherye · 28/09/2023 14:27

It makes me think of the word pariah - not a good link!

MariePaperRoses · 28/09/2023 14:28

It's an awkward looking name when written.

I prefer Nerys.

I did the same

Moveoverdarlin · 28/09/2023 14:30

Reminds me of Nerys too, and that’s not a good thing. It’s not a pretty name.

dancingorange · 28/09/2023 14:40

I know a little girl named Nariah, uncommon and fairly straight forward to pronounce. I give it a thumbs up

LastNightAPandaSavedMyLife · 28/09/2023 14:57

Also gives me Nevaeh vibes.

Imworthamillioninprizes · 28/09/2023 17:02

It's a unisex Israeli name, meaning "God is my candle/light." Neri is a derivative.

IncompleteSenten · 28/09/2023 17:05

In the Bible it's a man's name. The son of Mahseiah.
