I quite like it. It's sweet, not too common and sounds beautiful to say out loud. Also looks nice written down. Could have the nickname Carebear too (for family) which is adorable.
She may have to spell it for others sometimes but I have one of the most common names- which only has one spelling as far as I know- and I still have to spell it more often than I care to count. So don't let that put you off if you love the name, it's a gorgeous name.
Congratulations 🎉

Thanks I love the sound of it too and find it so pretty - just not sure on the Mariah connection maybe. Just wanted others opinion - thanks xx

I would have used it but got vetoed. I love it

MargotBamborough · 27/09/2023 11:26

I think it's quite nice, my first thought is that people will think it's a weird spelling of Kerry.

But it works for Carey Mulligan.

littlemousebigcheese · 27/09/2023 11:29

Love it but I know a carey who pronounces it Carrie!

DuchessOfSausage · 27/09/2023 11:39

Not keen. Makes me think of dental caries. Rhymes with Scary.
Mary is nice.

Watchthedoormat · 27/09/2023 11:41

I don't like it.
It doesn't sound like a real name to me and there's just so many beautiful names out there you could choose.
I think of Jim.

I think of Carey Grant if anything. One of the most wonderful, talented, caring, beautiful people to ever live. I know you're thinking of it for a girl but there's no reason those same qualities couldn't apply 🥰

Um what? So rhymes with scary means it's awful but you like Mary?
I like Mary too but it's a whole different name lol.

londongirl2701 · 27/09/2023 12:06

Thank you all xx

Lol @ the person who said, "Oh no, it rhymes with scary! Have you considered Mary instead?"

Marsyas · 27/09/2023 12:11

I like it. I wouldn't think of Mariah at all. And Cary Grant was Cary, not Carey, although his real name was Archibald I believe Grin

ShoesoftheWorld · 27/09/2023 12:15

No. Not as a formal name. If you like it that much, give her a name it can be used as a shortening/diminutive for, with some imagination - Caroline, Catherine or something. But tbh I don't think it's fair, just because you think it's pretty, to leave her without a more 'proper', substantial name to use if she wants. Naming is giving a gift - one that's supposed to last all someone's life - not (for want of a better image) choosing decor.

peaceinourtime · 27/09/2023 12:25

Carey is a nice female name, go for it

DuchessOfSausage · 27/09/2023 12:35

@traumallama @MargotBamborough , I didn't say have you thought of Mary instead. It has the same sort of sound as scary though and is a real name.

Carey seems to be too linked to a beautiful actress without the name itself being very nice.

DuchessOfSausage · 27/09/2023 12:52

Darkgreener suggests it's unisex.
Babies called Carey in England & Wales since 1996 (darkgreener.com)

I've been a massive fan of the actor since my childhood- now have I never noticed it's Cary without the e? Every day's a school day! Thanks for the correction 🥰

CallieQ · 27/09/2023 13:00

Love it! 🩷

PickledScrump · 27/09/2023 13:10

I’ve only met men called Carey so to me it’s a boys name

TheMurderousGoose · 27/09/2023 13:13

I like the look of it but when I hear it I just hear an American saying 'Kerry'.

PurpleChrayne · 27/09/2023 13:18

Carey is nice but Carebear is ridiculous!

DuchessOfSausage · 27/09/2023 15:21

@traumallama , Cary is said as Carry not Care-y
