Romilda

My DH and I are struggling to come to an agreement on a girl's name for our baby that is due any day now. We don't know the sex but a boy's name is agreed. We have come across Romilda as a more unusual alternative to Matilda, what do you think? We like that Romy and Millie could be nicknames.

DH likes Sabrina and Romilly and I like Rosanna and Antonia. Matilda is a name we both like but we aren't a fan of Tilly and worry that it is quite popular.

It sounds like the name of a storybook witch. Sorry 😬.

SkyeBlue28 · 25/09/2023 20:56

I have never heard of the name Romilda before. It sounds very unusual and pretty to me. If you both like it then I think you should go with it!

MissingMoominMamma · 25/09/2023 20:56

Your other names are nice though.

Floralnomad · 25/09/2023 20:57

It looks like you’ve hashed together a couple of names to me . I don’t like it .

Temporaryname158 · 25/09/2023 20:57

Reminds me of mildew, it doesn’t sound a nice name.

sabrina, romilly, Matilda and Antonia are all better choices

BoleynMemories13 · 25/09/2023 20:57

Romilly is pretty but Romilda is awful. In fact, all your other options are preferable to Romilda.

Screamingabdabz · 25/09/2023 20:57

Stick with one of the real names, they’re all lovely. Romilda sounds made up and not in a good way.

morag1234 · 25/09/2023 20:57

I really don't like it (sorry)

MrsMitford3 · 25/09/2023 20:58

I don't have a good association with it- it feels jarring to me although I like your nicknames-
and it brings to mind a minor Harry Potter character who no one likes and who tries to trap Harry with a love potion.

MrsTerryPratchett · 25/09/2023 20:58

Romilda is German. Shades of Brunhilda for me. Quite clunky.

Romily is nice, so is Matilda.

WaltzingWaters · 25/09/2023 20:59

Love Romilly and Romy for short. Really not keen on Romilda, sorry.

KookyAndSpooky · 25/09/2023 20:59

I wish we could agree on one of the other names! Perhaps one of us will back down when baby is here...I'm so name fatigued 😆

The only time I've heard of Romilda is in the Harry Potter books. It looks like you've mashed 2 names together and isn't in the same stratosphere as any of your other choices.

GeorgeBeckett · 25/09/2023 21:03

First thought (and first hit on Google) is Romilda Vane in Harry Potter. A bit of a daft character but not the end of the world I guess.

^This. Sorry it sounds horrible (sort of has all the grace of a boulder coming through a window).

Dacadactyl · 25/09/2023 21:47

Romilda?! Sorry, sounds like you made it up.

I think it's awful.

SkaneTos · 25/09/2023 22:51

I agree with some of the previous posters. The name Romilda makes me think of the character Romilda Vane in "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince". She is not a lovely character.

irisretic · 25/09/2023 22:52

Sorry but it is awful.

NuffSaidSam · 25/09/2023 22:54

Romilda sounds like a cleaning product.

All of the other names are nicer. Matilda is lovely and absolutely no need to be a Tilly if you don't want. Can have Millie or Tilda or Mattie or even just call her Matilda as that will be her name!

Rosanna is lovely as well.

EachPeachPearNectarine · 25/09/2023 22:55

Love it! It's unusual and very pretty.

Highlyflavouredgravy · 25/09/2023 22:55

Romilda vane!!!!

SneezyEvie · 25/09/2023 22:56

Not keen.

Just go with Romilly or Matilda. She doesn’t have to be Tilly. The two I know go by their full name or Tilda.

BeaLola · 25/09/2023 22:56

Sorry don't like Romilda at all.

I really like Romilly or why not just go for Romy ?

How about Verity, Serena or Margot.

Heffapotamus · 25/09/2023 22:58

What about Romona?
