We are expecting our first baby in December and have found out we're having a little boy. We're so excited but really struggling for names!
Names I like are:
Jude
Cooper
Caleb
Ezra
Seth

Names husband likes:
Alastair
William (I have agreed to this as a middle name)

Names we both like but can't use:
Rowan (rhymes with our surname)
Alfie (MIL cats name 😂)
George (best friends little boys name)
Noah (doesnt work with our surname)

I feel like we've gone through all of the Names a million times and nothings working for both of us

Raphael, Sullivan, Dashiell or Carter? I really like Cooper in your boys list too.

TaigaSno · 24/09/2023 00:17

If you both like George you should use it. It doesn't matter if your friends already have a George, it'll just become my George/your George.

Other suggestions that might be middle ground for both of you:
Adam
Benedict (Ned)
Benjamin
Elijah
Ethan
Gabriel
Jacob
Jared
Jesse
Nathaniel (Nate)
Timothy
Zachary

Jonah? If that works with your surname…similar to Noah and a lovely name.

Mischance · 24/09/2023 14:00

Don't dismiss George -you both agree on it which is a start! It does not matter about your friend's boy. I am a grandparent and 2 of my 7 GC have the same name - no-one cares that these cousins share a name.

Cressie2 · 24/09/2023 14:18

Call me a cow but I’d be pissed off if my best friend copied my child’s name. There are a million names out there. Use a bit of imagination.

Ah come on, George is the currently the 3rd most popular boys name in England and Wales.

If she was quibbling over like Peregrine or Julius I could see where you were coming from, but the thing with common names is that a lot of people like them (and use them!)

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 24/09/2023 14:34

If you like and can’t use Alfie, what about Albie? A few celebrities seem to be using this at the moment. Alfie the cat won’t be here forever and it’s a distinction between them whilst he is.

Cressie2 · 24/09/2023 15:11

@FirstFallopians i know, you’re completely right. I’d just be grumpy if it were me! X

ReeseWitherfork · 24/09/2023 15:16

Freddie, Finley, Henry, Teddy? All classic enough to tick your husbands preferences but “cool, suave” enough to meet your likes? All go with Cohen I think.

JustMaggie · 25/09/2023 08:52

John or Frederick

RoseRows · 25/09/2023 08:59

If it’s Cohen, you can’t use Seth unless you’re an avid OC fan. 😂

I like Jude best from your list. Ezra is also cute. Agree with PP that Jonah is similar to some of the names you can’t use and might work.

peaceinourtime · 25/09/2023 13:58

My votes are for Seth, a lovely underused name and Jude.

peaceinourtime · 25/09/2023 14:00

& with the Seth Cohen OC reference new born children would know nothing about the OC series it’s irrelevant to them.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 25/09/2023 14:51

If you like Alfie, alternatives are Albert/Albie or Arthur/Artie?

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 25/09/2023 14:52

Robin is quite similar to Rowan

Euan ?
