Love Ingrid

I love Ingrid

Whenever I think of Lydia, I always think of the classic but non PC Groucho Marx song my grandad used to sing to me:

Lydia, oh Lydia, say, have you met Lydia
Lydia the tattooed lady
She has eyes that men adore so
And a torso even more so
Lydia, oh Lydia, that encyclopedia...

(Lighthearted obv)

Is that Groucho Marx?! I'm only familiar with Kermit the Frog. But I have the exact same thought!

Ha ha

I really love Lydia. I like Ingrid but somehow struggle to see a child with the name. In my mind Ingrid is an elegant, beautifully groomed adult woman!

Findyourneutralspace · 21/09/2023 17:29

I was really hoping this was going to be for twins! They go beautifully together.
I think Ingrid has the edge for me but only by a whisker.

Sleepnplay · 21/09/2023 18:06

Lydia for me,I think it's beautiful.

Ingrid is ok but feels a bit harsh to me, I think it's the 'grid' part.

Ilikeyourdecor · 21/09/2023 18:58

I love both, I think I slightly prefer Ingrid.

Joolsin · 21/09/2023 18:58

I think Lydia is a beautiful name.

WeneedSamVimesonthecase · 21/09/2023 19:04

Gorgeous names, were on my list of DS had been DD.

Hard to choose, but I think Ingrid has a slight lead on Lydia. But both beautiful.

scaredofpate · 21/09/2023 19:04

I love Ingrid. My German grandmother was named Ingeborg but much prefer to be called Ingrid. It suited her so much - she was such a stylish intelligent lady!

Purpleboat · 21/09/2023 19:07

I prefer Lydia over Ingrid, but I hen I hear the name now it always reminds me of Aunt Lydia from the handmaid’s tale.

DuchessOfSausage · 21/09/2023 19:17

I like both, slightly prefer Lydia but not keen on Lyds.

pamshortsbrokenbothherlegs · 21/09/2023 19:48

I love Ingrid (was on our list for DD) and have never warmed to Lydia, but weirdly I do think they sound great together.

BonjourCrisette · 21/09/2023 20:07

Both really lovely. Slightly prefer Lydia, mainly because I once knew a really lovely Lydia.

BoleynMemories13 · 21/09/2023 21:21

Lydia is pretty and feminine.

Ingrid is frumpy and definitely not due a revival imo.

AlexaCanYouHearMe · 21/09/2023 21:21

Neither.

theduchessofspork · 21/09/2023 21:26

I like Lydia

I quite like Ingrid but it’s sort of ugly-pretty like Agnes, so it’s going to be more marmite I guess.

QueeniePlumtree · 26/09/2023 14:44

Lydia all the way!

I have never met an Ingrid that liked their name, young or older! In fact, some of the older Ingrids I knew were known as 'Giddy or Ginny' ....

SoShallINever · 26/09/2023 15:51

I really should like Lydia but I just can't get past it sounding like a disease.
Love Ingrid.

SneezyEvie · 26/09/2023 21:14

@Findyourneutralspace Me too! They’d make excellent sisters!

SkaneTos · 26/09/2023 21:55

Both Lydia and Ingrid are lovely names.

Daisybuttercup12345 · 27/09/2023 00:32

Lydia.
Linda is more unusual now.
Not a fan of Ingrid.

I love how Lydia sounds but I’m a major Jane Austen fan and Pride and Prejudice is my favourite ever book and Lydia Bennett just ruins it for me - but I know that’s a very personal thing

Ingrid isn’t my style but I do think it conjures up the image of a very glamorous Scandinavian woman.
