been loving this name recently and would like to hear thoughts. I’ve heard both pronunciations and am indifferent towards which one would be used.
thanks

I don't like it. Madeleine is much nicer.

I’m not a fan. It sounds harsh to me. I read it as adder-line, but don’t know if that is the correct pronunciation.

muddyford · 19/09/2023 19:32

I like it. Very elegant.

HoliHormonalTigerLillyTheSecond · 19/09/2023 19:59

I like it.

Reminds me of this song:

I like it a lot. I would say I prefer Madeleine and Adelaide (two of my all time favourite names) but Adeline is really pretty too.

What are the two pronunciations? I would only ever say it as Ah-deh-line.

inappropriateraspberry · 19/09/2023 20:56

Wasn't she the girl in Bread?

amidsummernightsdream · 19/09/2023 21:01

It’s beautiful

That was Aveline. I think.

theduchessofspork · 19/09/2023 22:58

Quite like it, but prefer Adelaide

marshallzumarubble · 20/09/2023 14:54

I have a 10 year old Adeline and we get a lot of compliments on it. She gets called Addie a lot, with the occasional Ads or Liney. I think we have only had it mispronounced once or twice, most people immediately go for 'Add-a-line'.

Hazelnut9 · 20/09/2023 15:24

I think it’s beautiful. I would probably want to pronounce it the French way Ad-uh-leen, but the other way is nice too.

Yes, that's the pronunciation of the little girl I know. Luckily her mum doesn't mind which pronunciation is used because -LINE is used more often.

PurpIe · 21/09/2023 11:19

It's the only granny-type name I like.

Brexile · 21/09/2023 11:20

I quite like it. Also Adela and Adelina.

TealSapphire · 21/09/2023 12:20

Lovely name.

peaceinourtime · 21/09/2023 12:52

It’s nice but she will become an Addie.

Ilikeyourdecor · 21/09/2023 19:10

I'd pronounce it "line" not "lyn" by default.

I like it but prefer Adelaide which is one of my favourite names. Unfortunately I don't like Addie, so I didn't use Adelaide in the end.

Delphigirl · 21/09/2023 19:12

Like it. Have you seen the movie the Age of Adeline? It is excellent and she is so beautiful and stylish.

Windseven · 21/09/2023 19:18

I like it but for some reason it reminds me of Coraliiiiine

which is obvs v scary button eyes and shit 😱

CurlewKate · 21/09/2023 19:21

I prefer Adelaide.

AlwaysFoldingWashing · 21/09/2023 19:27

I know an Adelaide who goes by Ada which is a little nicer than Addie.

Farmageddon · 21/09/2023 21:13

I knew a girl called Adelina growing up (not sure if it's a Spanish name as her mum was Spanish), which I always liked.
I prefer that to Adeline to be honest.
