Using family first and middle name

Is it weird to use baby’s uncles first and middle names for baby? We would have uncles middle name as baby’s first name (and mainly use the nickname which I don’t associate with uncle) and uncles first name would be the middle name as it’s the same as my husbands name. We love the first name for baby but I feel a bit weird the baby being named after my brother (even though me and my brother have a good relationship). Thanks

The baby isn’t being named after your brother if just like the name. It’s fine.

I'm assuming the baby will have his father's surname, or you'd have mentioned that he'd also share your brother's surname.

So your brother is called James Robert Smith and the baby will be called Robert James Green, known as Bobby? Or something like that?

I think it's fine.

Your brother will of course crow delightedly to everyone that the baby is named after him. As that's what brothers do. Smile

Yes exactly like that, thank you 😊

Naming your baby after a family member, even if it's your brother, can be a beautiful and meaningful choice. It's a way to honor a loved one and carry on their name. If you and your husband love the name and feel a connection to it, that's what matters most.

The fact that you have a good relationship with your brother makes this choice even more special. It can serve as a tribute to your bond and the importance of family in your lives.

Many families have a tradition of naming children after relatives, and it's a way to celebrate your family's heritage and connections. If you both genuinely love the name and feel it's the right choice for your baby, then it's not weird at all. It's a heartfelt decision that holds personal significance for your family.

Perfect.

I think this is fine, unless maybe the names are really unusual and there would then be a definite assumed link to your brother -which is fine if that's what you'd like!

Thomas Daniel and baby Daniel Thomas nn Danny... feels different to Zebedee Zachary and then baby Zach.
